Ever been reading the news and found out somebody you know has died?

I was just reading the online news for a TV station back home and one of the top headlines was about a guy I'd known since I was 8 or 9 years old. He used to live across the street from my sister and her ex-husband and that's how I met him.

He was born in a different city but he was literally only 10 minutes older than me. I was born at 10:10am on June 10th, 1971 and he was born at 10:00am. We went to different elementary and middle schools but went to highschool together and even hung out occasionally for even a few years after graduating. He ended up becoming more of a friend of a friend over the years. He was better friends with a couple of my friends but we were always friendly to each other and would stop and talk if we saw each other out somewhere, usually out at the clubs on the weekend. Up until 3 years ago I was a workaholic with a weird work schedule, and he had gotten married and had kids and because of life we just drifted apart. I hadn't talked to him for probably 3 or 4 years but it's still a shock to see that he's dead.

I don't know if he's still married or how many kids he has but I wonder what's going to happen there. He was a talented tradesman and for several years worked with his dad building restaurants and stores in the malls. About the last time I saw him he told me that he and a buddy had started a painting business and that things were looking good.

Here's the news story:

From the KCRG-TV9 Cedar Rapids Newsroom

Cedar Rapids police are investigating two unrelated deaths.

Officers found Jason Rezac, 32, directly below Interstate 380 and 7th Street Northeast exit ramp Monday morning.

Rezac was reported missing Sunday morning.

If you have any information, call Cedar Rapids police.
I just get a very weird feeling after reading the story and watching the accompanying video. Something just feels wrong about the circumstances of how it happened and I don't know how to describe it.

Two people in the "Deaths" page of the "Metro" section of the newspaper, one that was in my family and another a close friend (Not mine)...None of who I knew, but they still were either my uncle's eldest son or a close friend to my grandpa...I had blank emotions on both people, but so far, no one I truly know have died yet, although some of my grandparents have lived life to their fullest, and I'll be doing more than read about their deaths soon in my life...

While I was in the US, I read the paper and saw that a guy who I have seen 2 days before in my school had died in a car accident...I haven't really been that close to him but my ex boyfriend had and I'e talked to him a few times...I couldn't really reazlize that he was not there anymore, it was just as if he was on vacation somewhere and would be back soon, I just couldn't be sad because I couldn't fully grasp it with my mind...I guess I just didn't know him good enough.

Damn idiot, that must have been an awful experience... Hope htat you could cope with it as good as someone can do in a situation like that...

My three month old niece. I knew she died, but I did read the obituary, so in a way, yes.

There's not really much for me to cope with as we hadn't been close for a few years but thanks anyway. It's just a weird feeling to be browsing the news sites from back home and one of the first things you see is the name of somebody that you've known for over 20 years has died and under, what looks like, fairly odd circumstances. I need to get ahold of some old friends and my sister to see if I can find out what really happened.

Yep - a vice principal at my school ran into the back of a stopped semi truck while going freeway speed, and a kid I knew from high school died on the way to school the year after I graduated - he didn't make a 90 degree turn in his old VW bug and ran into a tree.
