GRAND THEFT AUTO: SAN ANDREAS ANNOUNCED

Rockstar Games is pleased to announce Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas, the next iteration in the globally successful Grand Theft Auto franchise. Developed by world-class designers Rockstar North, Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas will be available exclusively for the PlayStation®2 computer entertainment system and is expected to be in stores in North America on October 19, 2004 and in Europe on October 22, 2004.

"In the past couple of years, we have put an enormous amount of pressure on ourselves to ensure we do everything possible to exceed people's expectations with Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas," stated Sam Houser, President of Rockstar Games. "Even though we still have eight months to go, we are starting to become very proud of what we have achieved and we can't wait to get the game into players' hands."

Leslie Benzies, President of Rockstar North, stated, "We are extremely humbled by the success of the Grand Theft Auto series and it has made us push ourselves further than ever to create a title in Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas that will hopefully redefine the Grand Theft Auto series and revolutionize open-ended gameplay and video game production values."

Over 30 million units of the Grand Theft Auto franchise have been shipped to date, including over 11.5 million units of Grand Theft Auto: Vice City and over 10.5 million units of Grand Theft Auto 3.
ROCKSTAR

Hmmm, maybe I should hang onto that PS2 for a bit longer, although I really hope this isn't going to be some huge multi-player on line thing.

Question is though, can they really top GTA VC for longevity?, that damd game ate up far too much of my spare time last year....

I would imagine San Francisco, given that's where the San Andreas fault lies, hey maybe they will put the Nullsoft offices on the map, that'd be great, just drop on by and pop a cap in Gedikians ass

He said when

Given that they took two years to develop GTA3, spent just one year on making the excellent Vice City, then it sounds like this next instalment will be something special. Rockstar said they wanted it to 'exceed people's expectations'. Excellent

Adding multiplayer would be great, so long as the game isn't focused on it.

I would prefer it set in the 90's, would be fun to go around poking fun at the second 60's (As sombody has christened them).

It'd be interesting to have it set in like the 50's (or was it 40's??) with the big gang activity...and the tommy guns

Mobs and Tommy guns? I think that would be in the 30s. Correct me if I'm wrong.

Sounds right to me Sarge. I seem to recall reading a piece about gangsters in the late 20s and into the 30s using tommy guns...

By 'exclusively for PS2' they probably mean 'for a few months'. I'm pretty sure Vice City was originally released 'exclusively for PS2' simply because they hadn't done the PC version yet.

You can, in GTA3 and VC. But it requires a fair bit of work.

First look out the GTA3 Real life mod, that not only replaces almost all in game cars, but adds a couple of new ones.

Personaly what I would like to see is tools shiped with the game to edit it.

nope, sorry to say it but GTA-VC was planned (by sony) to never be released on the PC, the only reason it did was because of some legal thing between sony and rockstar, forget exactly what it was but basically rockstar went behind sony's back and found a loophole or sumthin

Source. Find me something credible that agrees with what you said, and reports it in the past tense as opposed to speculating.

It's far more likely that someone from Microsoft got out their chequebook.

that's what the guy at my local video game shop told me right about the time GTA-VC was ported to the PC, he said there was a news article about it and sony tried to fight it.... but that was quite a while ago and i never exactly bothered to lookup the article anyway (sales dude was able to provide quite a bit of info on the subject)

it's for Xbox and ps2, which probably means that it'll eventually become available on PC

I hope so, because I'm not buying a PS2 just to play SA.

I will. Besides, when I move out, I'll at least get to keep it, the gamecube will probably stay.
