IE6 is the dumbest thing ever. period.

Last month I installed IE6 over the previous version (5.0 or 5.5), and every day since then I've regretted using it as my default browser

and why?

It crashes everytime I load a shockwave/flash movie or install a shockwave plugin & sends an error report to microsoft

Italicized text is blurred, Encoding has to be changed suitably to make it readable

Uses only ONE default font for all web-pages, which is usually Verdana. Google's default font is Arial (on IE5 and below, Netscape and Opera), but when it applies large-sized Verdana font, Google looks ugly

I'm unable to save web-pages onto my hard-disk. Again, IE6 crashes when I'm saving the webpage & attempts to send an error report to MS

And the worst part of it all... you cannot revert back to good old IE5 - you will have to reinstall Windows

As it happens Mozilla crashes when doing java and shockwave stuff. Now I use konquerer, just as good but with FAR better text display, much easier to read.

You see, IE sucks period. Saying that IE6 is bad compared to IE5 is like saying dog shit tastes worse than horse shit. You know, it doesn't really matter.

I happen to like IE6. I've been using it since just after it was officially released, and I haven't really had any major problems with it. As a matter of fact, I don't remember the last time I had an instance of IE crash. I don't have any problems with shockwave things, or anything else for that matter. Maybe IE just doesn't like you.

My am agree with sgtfuzzbubble99 and White Raven.

I have no problems with it, except for an occasional crash, which is 99% of the time cause by my antivirus.

Because Norton already does a good job at slowing down my computer. No sense in installing a virus to do that when the anti-virus program does it so well.

And IE doesn't take ten times longer to render a page, and it doesn't crash... at least not for me. If it does that for you, then sorry for you.

Have you tried Opera to see how much faster pages are rendered?

Not to mention tabbed browsing, more than two download "streams" so you don't have to wait as long for a page to load on broadband, etc...

It doesn't replace the rendering engine - IE is still slower to render pages, and generally deviates from the W3C standards.

Its because of these deviations, thats why people are making pages that are "IE compatiable" simply because they believe Microsoft standards are the standards.

Ok, so people write bad code. But IE still shows it as the author intended it to be shown. That has nothing to do with the people that write W3C-standard code. As far as I've seen, my IE has displayed every single W3C-certified site correctly... If your IE is displaying W3C-certified sites incorrectly, then I don't know what's wrong with yours.

every previous version of my page. the current version works because i restricted myself to the subset of the specs that it supports, which is quite a cutback. there's a lot of neato features on sites i've made that don't work on IE, too.

That's because IE is craptastic, Old, out of date, riddled with major flaws, and slow. I hate that piece of shit with a passion. If it weren't for M$ forcing you yo use it for windows updates, I wouldn't use it at all.

I can't wait for Mozilla 1.7. The alpha is a huge improvement over 1.6.

The point Zoot was trying to get across is that people write code, test it in IE, modify it to look correct, and then it dosen't work in other browsers (that follow the W3 guidelines.) (sometimes) (wow that's a lot of extra notes) (seriously).

And another example of awesome things you can do with CSS, that IE dosen't support is CSS menus.

it works in ie for me, but not opera... >.<
