Another Alien Skin - (needs a name)

Hi all!

Invicta really inspired me that i made another alien skin. ive been workin on it for a couple of days already. i cant think of a name for it, so if anybody could suggest a good name for it i would appreciate it.

its still on its early stage so there could still be lots of changes & additions. suggestions, comments & crit welcome.

those green reflections glows are nice as, good job there..but i dunno whether the lcd works with the green glows and the bass/volume knob doesn't fit with the skin, maybe you could make it into a plasticy one that works with ur skin..its still very nice and it will b a good skin when finished.

The green glows don't seem to match the lcd like matt said. Maybe a more darken orange or red would be better. The rest is very nice.

The first thing that poped into my head, for a name, was
ACD:wich stands for Alien Computing Device

leech, i guess we were both abducted cause of the theme of our skins

im with icegod on this, reflections are never the same hue (unless its a mirror).

as an alien hobbyist, you should get the reflections either pulsing on beat, or on a steady rythm (like emergency lights
in a car).

the knob's fine with me, since the BG looks metallic.

overall, tis very nice \

Inspired.... mmmhh.. I don´t wanna bother but.. the main body and the LCD are almost the same as X-box skin for WMP9 (made by Skins factory), the disposition of buttons is the same too... I don´t think this is an original work... May be a "port", but not an original work...

vicB & pukkaboy: yeah ur right, i does look a lot similar w/ the xbox skin. i didnt intend to copy it though. i guess i have to change the default color on it, make it blueish or red whatever. i just personally love orange & green combination. also, i still need to add alot of stuff on it. the end result could be a lot different than the xbox skin, i hope.

VAG: thanks! Anunaki, thats a good name.

IceGod: ACD sounds good too. but i think ill go with Vag's Anunaki. unless someone would come up w/ another name. thanks!

leech, dont concentrate on colors now, when someone codes your skin, have him\her to make it theme-able

as for a name, what about Alien X-zibit?

that is really nice and it goes really well with the skin. The colors dont go to well together (sliding EQ drawer) maybe change Hue.
But this skin is really coming along.

I do not like the embeded text on the slider (on the top). It doesn't match. Also I don't like how many colour there are. The green lights clash with the orange LCD and both clash with the yellow button lables. Choose a color and stick with it. Not only will it look better, but it will be easier to colourtheme.

It looks weird how the very top and bottom of the lights which reflect on the lcd (the green ones) are blurred. Why are they blurred? They don't need to be.

The jogger/spinny dial thing on the bottom is weird looknig on the skin. Much too shiney for me.

I think it would be cool to have the cbutton panel slide out at a diagnol and have something on it.

Fir the love of god please fix the jaggies too.

All in all though, it is a good idea, a skin I would like to see finished, but needs a lot of tweaking.

sliding panels are rarely this beveled, you can de-bevel it a bit, or compensate by having some sort of prop, like a bare cable or circuit board on the bevel dent, ill draw an explanation later on (ofcourse you dont have to do anything i have suggested, its your skin, dont forget that)

overall.. really promising

Update

hey guys! some updates. i did most of the suggestions but not all. i changed the colors a bit, it will be themed anyway so the colors is not really a big deal. de-bevel the eq drawer, improved the reflections, etc.
also i finally finished the stick mode design. the shade mode will be next. then maybe i could start coding.

Well, NOW this is taking shape. Now I can see the original work .
Suggestions:
-In main mode, Maybe I would give more importance to Control Buttons, because I think they look a bit out of place... maybe they´re just too small.
-Also, volume wheel needs something... like bevel.. look at MMD3 to see what I mean, that´s a great Vol Wheel.
-Left side of the display may be a little bit empty don´t u think?
-I REEEEEEEAALLLY like stick mode, my only complai are CButtons again, wouldn´t u like to make them more "button like"?

thanks guys.

matt_69: ill be coding this myself. it could be awhile b4 i could start the coding though. i still have to make the shade mode design, and im struggling w/ grphx, this my 1st time to make this kind of grphx.

VicB: im thinking the same about the buttons in the main mode too, i'll try to make them into real buttons. the stick mode buttons, i have tried making them into real buttons but it didnt look too good. those stick cbutton will glow yellow on hover though.
also, ill work more on the display in the lcd. im planning to have 5 to 6 different display layouts w/c could be cycled with that small button on the left.

thanks!

hey, good looking skin. I like the light radiating out from around the screen, but I'm thinkin you should probably put some sort of custom vis in the background of the display area to fill it in a bit. the EQ is great, I love the bars on there (don't know how I'd code that...) mini mode is awesome, but that little curve on the top left of it would keep it from attaching itself nicely to the top of the screen, so maybe ya could put snap points there. looks really good though, I think the control buttons on the main mode as well as the shade mode should be changed though. and of coarse I understand it is still early in development, just making suggestions about things you probably already thought of. how bout someday ya post a beta and we can all work on some color themes? it'd be a good time haha

Hello there, ive been reading this thread and people have been providing some constructive critisism, with great ideas. I hope you dont take offense to what i have done, but i really like ur skin (i to really like orange and green combo, which is why i think i was drawn to it to start with). I wanted to just test some ideas and maybe see if you would like and take up on them.. I tryed giving the main vis a little more energy, i took the grid idea from eq and moved it in and using ur black line idea for buttons punched the idea up and threw in the name u picked. (i had to move the shuf rep buttons over 1 pix to line up the lines and added 1 vis bar to line the 1's uptop.) I just tryed throwing an idea out there for buttons. i took the basic shape u had and shrunk and rotated it around. I really really like ur stick mode. I liked the yellow lights you did so i tryed put them into it also and added the grid again. If you like some stuff then great but if you dont then just disgaurd this.

I think his own design looks better, but i do agree on the lighter outline of the glass to smooth it out alittle.

thanks again to the suggestions. they're great!

xlSwampFoxlx : i like what you did with the cbuttons, ill take that suggestions but have to change it to glossy black. i dont like the grid though. and the skin name or logo will be placed beside the cbuttons. maybe carved or something. and the name is "Anunaki" for now but still open for more suggestions. im looking for a shorter name for it.

dodger758: a beta will posted as soon i get something goin. it will be a while though. i want to finish up first the graphics for all the 3 modes then i could start coding.

xlSwampFoxlx, the pattern you insert on the LCDs isn't the proper one for this glass like LCD.
I believe it don't need any pattern on it's glass.

As about the Anunaki name, can be placed elsewhere cause there is alot of space

leechbite keep on working my friend, I like this skin that's why I gave you the name (you can call me GodFather) hehehehe
