Dating outside your ethnic/religious group
What do you say about dating people outside of your ethnic or religious group? Some of these groups (Can't list any off the top of my head, though) prohibit dating other people of a different group due to their moral beliefs, or it's a part of their practice...If you're in one of these groups and you've found a person capable as your signifigant other, would you go against your own beliefs for a reason in such a situation?

Never did that but not because I chose to, you cannot plan who you fall in love with...I could only see problems if the religion/culture differs so much from your usual daily habits and way of living htat it owuld be hard to find similarities you can build up the relationship upon...but then again love could overcome such a thing as well I guess, it would just make it very difficult if both people's opinions on everything would differ very much.
Prohibiting dating outside of your "group" is a discriminating thing to do though, everyone should be free to choose on who to love and be together with...I myself would never change my religion just to marry aperson form anotehr one though since I believe that you shouldn't change religion as you like since it should be founded on your beliefs...it's not a pair of shoes you can change... I never knew their was a rule against it. I'm christian and my bf doesnt believe in anything I think thats atheist, but still, I don't really care, his view up to him really. At the end of the day their still the same person, so it doesn't matter to me.

If someone didn't want to date me and the main reason was that i wasn't of their religion i probably wouldn't want to date them in the first place.

I'm extremly anti-racist but I have never found girls who aren't white attractive. Black/hipanic/etc girls I just don't find attractive at all, I don't know why.
I don't have anything against people with religious tendencies, but as pepole generally like people who share the same beliefs etc I think it would probably get in the way. Especially for me as I am very anti-religious. "We think science is interesting and if you disagree, you can fuck off." |

It's funny to see this thread. My family is just filled with different ethnic backgrounds and religious beliefs. For myself, I've dated different kinds of guys.
In some ways, it would be easier for those with the same religious/ethnic backgrounds to date, common ground and all that good stuff. When my parents got together, there was a big uproar within her family, cause he was a white American (Protestant to boot), and she's Filippina/Catholic. Huge differences. It took awhile for her family to accept their relationship, but, in the long run, it all worked out. It took compromises from the both of them to make their marriage work and last as long as it has. As far as attraction goes, I've never been attracted to Asian guys. I guess cause it would feel like I was dating a relative or something weird like that  Strangely enough, I've always found my self attracted to skinny, white, geeky guys

I went out with a Jehovah's witness for a while. Cute as hell, just way hung up on something. I'm a catholic, but have since kind of sidled away from the hypocrasy my religion carries. I don't care what religion people are, as long as it's not mormon or something equally oddball.
Race, however, I have a hard time with. Like Phily said, I'm not really attracted to a lot of black women, not a hell of a lot of hispanics either. But there are black girls and hispanic girls and lots of oriental girls that I could see myself with. The only real problem I have is dating people who are stupid. Like many others on this thread, I'm simply not attracted to most black and/or hispanic and/or "middle eastern" women. That's not to say that I'm completely unattracted to all of the forementioned women, but just a vast majority.
As far as religion... If it's going to work out, they're going to need to be at least respectful of my beliefs and ideals, as I will be of theirs, and of course, their beliefs can't be completely fucking crazy either. What can I say.. I pretty much lived more than half my life in the US. Therefore, I am more attracted to white girls than asian girls. It sums down to the environment, which you grew up on. For all those who say that they aren't attracted to black/hispanic,etc people, if you grew up with them, you probably will.
As with religion, I am agnostic, so as long as they aren't too "believe in my religion or go to hell", then I am cool with it. BTW if you haven't noticed, I am asian.

I have no issues dating out of my ethnic group. I find that I'm more attracted to caucasians, but I would certainly date an asian, or hispanic, or black if the situation presented itself.
As for religion, as I am very much anti-religion, I probably wouldn't go for someone who is the super gung ho religious type. |
