Writing lyrics
I know some of you write lyrics in here and i could use some help. I can never think of things to write about. i want to write about the failings of society but that seems to be so general. the problem is that i can never seem to figure out the story i want the song to tell or how to convey my point. For example, i started writing a song about everyone following the crowd but couldn't think of how to get that across. also i think i'm idolizing james hetfield too much. i'm trying to write songs just like him and its not happening. he's an incredible songwriter.
Never underestimate the bandwidth of a station wagon full of tapes hurtling down the highway. |

I would have to conclude, from your post, that the inspiration most writers count on and utilize is just not in you.
Maybe you should stop trying to force ideas and thoughts out of your head and just be receptive to the world happening around you. See the goings on in the world and play them around in your head. Try to see these events as funny one day, tragic the next, useless a little while later, and then drastically important another day. Make up a sentence that starts out making fun of something and ends with the idea that it just aint even real. Then another line that implies you'll die without it. Lyrics are just ideas in motion. Music is just sound in form. Don't force it, just "Let It Be,Let it be, let it beee, let it be. Whispered words of wisdom, let it be." Just my 2-1/2 cents worth. Glenn |
