So, who's outlived Kurt Cobain?

We all know, Kurt died at the age of 27... a tragic accident whilst polishing his revolver.

I just realised I've outlived the bastard by 6 years.

Has anyone else outlived the great man?

You have a point - he lived more than I could in several lifetimes.

I still have about 11 years before I even match him, but I sure hope I outlive rock music's most-praised medicore guitarist...

I've got another 4 years to go.

Still got one year to go before I at least tie him

BTW...

All kinds of stuff going around here for the anniversary of his death. Random little memorials by the roadside, some big one I think happens on Thursday at a park that's nearby his home. There's been a couple of interesting articles about his contribution to music, and his lasting influence, etc. It's been pretty interesting to read differing opinions about him. Whether Kurt was indeed a music legend, or just some hyped-up druggie, pretty much sums it up.

I've outlived him.

I can remember quite clearly where I was when I found out he'd done it as well, it was a red hot day,Saturday I think, I was driving into town with my then gf, well she was driving , we passed a newsagents shop that had one of those headline boards outside, it read something like..

"Top Rock Star Kills Himself", or words to that effect, I remarked to her, "I bet you any money that's the bloke out of Nirvana", coming a few weeks after his previous attempt.

Couple of hours later back home it was all over the news.

Funny the things you remember, never a big Nirvana fan back when they were popular, can't say I am now, although I do have a copy of Unplugged, if only for the spine tingling rendition of "where did you sleep last night", quite possibly the finest track they ever laid down, a cover at that, which in itself I think speaks volumes.

Well, I can give the guy thirty years and more :greybeard:

I liked Nirvana well enough but, as you can guess from my age, they were never likely to become heros in my eyes.

Interesting song there Mr Jones, I first came to know it more than forty years ago and have followed the changes that growing political correctness have wrought on it ever since. It was written by Leadbelly, as I expect you know, and originally called 'Black Girl'. It's said to be one of the songs that got him out of jail. Over the years people have become unsettled by the title and it was often recorded as 'In The Pines'. The Nirvena version completely avoids any discomfort by changing the first line to "My girl, My girl ..." and the title to "Where Did You Sleep Last Night". Good version nonetheless.
