Neither moderators nor skin reviewers nor anybody except maybe the winamp webmaster (read admin here) have anything to do with what you call "Featured" skins.

Not Mr. Jones, who BTW is my friend, not me, who is the Skin Review Team leader.

If I find any evidence of you down-rating any skin (not just talking Mr. Jones' here), I will personally hunt you down and get your sorry ass banned. Did I make myself clear or would you like that spelled out a little better?

Down-rating skins because of a personal grudge is frowned upon quite seriously and simply not tolerated.

Have ever you stopped to ponder that maybe, just maybe, his skins were featured because they're good? I know, it's quite a novel concept.

Of course this site is not what it used to be. Some things are better, others are not. But that does not mean you are allowed to down rate skins because you don't like the site.

Steve does not have very much if anything to do with the website. This mainly falls on the shoulders of Jonathan. Maybe Dysmentia wants to take him on?

Look guys, I'ma say this once, in the interest of giving a proper explanation. I don't know why, you won't listen, and if you did, you wouldn't understand, but here goes.

Despite the recent change in looks, the winamp website is not actively looked after by Nullsoft. They keep it running and squash any major bugs, but it has never been the primary concern of the Nullsoft coders. (That's completely understandable.) And since AOL deleted the nullsoft website administration position, those people who do maintain the day-to-day part of winamp.com do so on a volunteer basis. No money, no free T-shirts, no nekkid stripping llamas.

As to what these people can do, well, think of it like your TV set. You have some control over what you watch. You can change the channel, and record things, but you have no fundamental control over the programming line-up. If your signal goes balls-up you can call the station and rave until it's fixed, but you have no direct control. That is very much the position of most website volunteers.

So it's impossible for Jones (or anyone else) to persecute you like you're saying. If you've gotten an unnecessarily bad review, try talking to someone rather than flaming them. Better yet, if it's below 4 stars, assume the person knows what they're talking about and try and do better.

The featured skins were supposed to be done via an automated process, excepting the advertising skins (like the Punisher skin right now). If that's not the way things are, then it's because the site's broken. Skin reviewers cannot and never could directly set featured skins.

Of course it's a good idea to get the lesser known skins up. Duh. This is why people like Wally and Jones got involved in the first place. They're trying to make the world a better place. But (bear this in mind, flamers) they have no incentive or obligation to do so.

AND, 2 more things.

1) Forum accounts and component accounts are two different systems. So the majority of people here can't automatically rate stuff.

2) If your skin's so hot, why not post a link? A search for your name returns no results in Modern or Classic skins. Perhaps I should search for Slegers?

Ok, first of all I'll elaborate on some of the points that have already been made within this thread by other people, adding my own spin on them if you like.

Ok, your quite right, I'm a moderator of these forums, I'm also a skin reviewer for winamp.com, I've been known to write articles for the news section of winamp.com, I also beta test the product itself, I also lick Steve Gedikians balls in my spare time, or to put it another way I'm an all round general dogsbody for winamp and it's community.

How you have the tenacity and the gall to come here and claim that I'm preventing other authors from getting their work reviewed or featured beggars belief, but let me tell you some of the facts.

1) Nearly 3 years ago I, along with a couple of buddies, were approached by the admin of this site to help set up a team of people picked from the general public who would help with the publishing of skins for the site, together we put the guidelines in place for reviewing, helped pick the team and then got down to publishing thousands of skins, re-organising the database etc etc, so to say that I prevent people from getting published is absolute horse shit, if it wasn't for myself and the other skin reviewers hard work over the last few year there probably wouldn't be any damd skins published at all, and even if there were, it would only be every few months like it used to be before. Why did they pick me?, at the time I wasn't even moderating these forums, I was however posting like furry in the skin forums, helping people out left right and centre and generally doing as much as I could to help change the site for the better. Like I say, that was over three years ago.


2) I always ensure my skins are featured?, more horse shit. It is true that once upon a time, skin reviewers had a hand in nominating skins to be featured, if we saw a skin we liked, we mentioned it to the admin people who run the site, if they agreed it would get featured, more often than not this didn't happen, but it did on occasion, I've had the pleasure of seeing skins by other people that I really liked get made front page work, and not once during this time did I nominate any of my own.

3) Are you aware of how many skins I have in the database?, somewhere approaching 50, how many have been featured maybe about 5 or 6, I forget, always get my stuff featured, do me a favour.

4)You leap on this skin of mine like it's something new, guess again buddy, I'd almost forgotten about that skin, I only made it for something to do while I was busy with other projects, I've had other skins released and published at this site between this one getting published and my last featured skin last year, did you see any of those on the front page, no you did not.

5) Wanna know why this skin is on the front page?, I was talking with one of the admin guys who runs this place, trying to work through some site bugs, yes I've been known to lend a hand finding bugs with the new site, he mentioned the skin, said he liked it, next day it was on the front page, I'm guessing he liked it enough to feature it, believe me I wish he hadn't I didn't particular want it on the front page, like I say it was an oldish skin that I thought I'd put out because people have been enjoying that particular series of skin.

6) Have you ever stopped to consider that it might also be up there because in general there were no other new skins around that week?, do you know how many skins we get submitted a week?, not many now, in fact looking at the queue of skins to be published there are about half a dozen waiting to get published, most of those are re-submissions.

You know jealousy is a terrible thing to have, is that what this comes down to?, you are in some way envious that my shitty skin somehow got looked at and yours didn't?, please do me a favour, it's not that important in the grand scheme of things, you envious of my position in this community?, well I'll tell you the secret for getting on in this community and ascending the ranks, work damd hard, I've put countless hours of my own free time into moderating this place, skin reviewing, beta testing and christ knows what else, I'm where I am now because I worked at it and didn't sit on my ass crying about how unfair life was.

At the end of the day however, I'm still a regular member and skinner, just one who happens to throw a lot of free time at helping run this site, if you don't like that, then that's hard luck, the people who run this place, Steve, Jon, Wen etc etc are happy with the hard work that gets put in, and that's good enough for me.


Now onto more serious matter, you have arrived at these forums and agreed to a set of guidelines

Not only have you flamed another member, ie me, you've crossposted it in several forums, that's a very bad move and the sign of a very bitter person. If you keep this up you will be removed from these forums, however, I suspect you are another user of this forum hiding behind an fake name, so give me five minutes to check your IP details and I'll be right back to expose you.

Oh guess what your IP address matched up exactly to another member of these forums, would that member like to step forward and put their hands up now, or shall I expose you for the cowardly cry baby you are right now?, I'll give you a chance to think on it, if you don't put your hand up before the end of the day, I'll expose you for everyone to see, next time you want to flame someone, be sure to hide behind a proxy or something, because your as transparent as they come when you post here. Either that, or your sharing a connection with someone else who is a member of these forums, either way you have an exact IP match...

Now, I'll be speaking with admin type people later to check the logs for any comments that are posted against any of my skins, if they match up to your details in here, then there are several options open to me and my fellow moderators/skin reviewers. First up, your accounts here can be banned, your skins that you currently have in the database can be purged and your accounts there removed.

You obviously didn't think this through and have now opened an almighty can of worms for yourself, I've informed the other moderators of your alter ego, and they will be keeping an super keen eye on you to see what your next move is.

On a personal level for me your next best move would be to issue me with an apology, and I don't mean sending it via PM,something nice and public will do thanks, you can also go an edit any comments you may have made in the skin database, downrating is frowned up and as Wally says will not be tolerated, we have the tools available to us to track you down in there, we found over 900 instances of one person downrating skins, how hard do you think it will be to find you?

I'm not one to hold a grudge, as you obviously are, but if you want to play rough with this, I can hit you twice as hard in places that will hurt twice as much, I've dealt with bigger and more persistent fools than you in my time, you will be nothing to deal with, so please, do yourself a favour and do the right thing,don't try and kid us you are just someone acting on a one off whim, your other user name is established in this very forum, I'd so hate to see you vilified, but if you want to carry it on, then so be it.

So to summarise.

I know who you are.
The other moderators know who you are
The other skin reviewers know who you are

You can apologise or I can expose your alter ego for everyone else to have a stab at. You have 24hrs from the time of this post to respond.

Oh, and next time, if you feel the urge to take me on head to head, could you do me the courtesy of doing it sometime between 0800 and 2300 hours GMT so I can at least go head to head with you live and not have to wait until the morning so everyone else can get the good lines in before me , thanks

That's besides the point, it's been explained to you how things work by myself, wally and others. I also explained that I and other reviewers have little or no say in what gets put on the front page any longer.

Your behaviour and intent to flame and abuse me is both childish and pointless, it's a fight you can't win. Hiding behind some other name just show what a spinless coward you really are, don't wanna face it face to face eh in case you end up looking like a fool?, trust me, that's what's happening now. Seriously, if you want something changed around here, using false accounts and tactics like these aren't the way to get them done. Contact Steve, Jonathan or Wen directly, politely ask them for some dialog time, and if they are open to it, make your case. Skin reviewers and moderators, however mighty their titles may sound, really have absolutely no more power to change things at that level than regular users. We are subject to the same requirements you are, if we want to get something done: We have to contact admin directly, and argue our case, whatever it may be. Of course, we do have a slight advantage, in that we have proven, over time, to be useful community members that understand admin can be very busy and that our problem/issue may be unimportant or less important to them than their own current problems. You, conversely, will be at a disadvantage, having already taken this route.

Sounds like the hubress of the defeated. If you're really so frustrated, why don't you stop being a coward, post with your real handle, and get these "others" you talked to to back you up. So f'ing what if people work for months on skins and they don't get featured. I've been working on the same skin for damn near a year and wouldn't even consider it even close to completion. Crap rolls downhill, so if your stuff doesn't get featured, it's nobody's fault but your own. And the fact that you're too yella to even want your real name published reflects the fact that anything you've produced must be too insignificant to be featured.

If you really want REAL recognition, quit being a little bi@tch, apologize like a man/woman, STFU and go make something worthwhile. Trying to diss Jones is only gonna make you a LOT of enemies.

Why everyone's skin MUST to be featured? Why every Corporate skin MUSt be feaatured also? if in both cases the effort is poor crap, let those fucked skins rot in database's hell.

Since every artist and coder give inovative designs, new features and things to remember to projects that are MORE than a simple skin(s) why the fuck to be featured a skin that has NOTHING new but it's a revision 4 of an already skin but an old player that is kinda dead now since we all are in Winamp 5 version and we still need more?.
