Custom Electric Guitars
My dad's a luthier (Builds and repairs guitars) and he's starting up a business where he builds electric guitars, to send to people all over the world.
I'm assigned as the painter/designer. I've come up with a bunch of original designs to put on some guitars. I'll put some designs here, but I was wondering... There's this Native Indian raven I want to put on the guitar he's building for me, but I don't know if that's legal... You know how Natives are very protective of their style of art and crests and things. I was wondering... Does anyone know if this is legal, to put this on my guitar? Or who I'd ask? Or even where this picture is from? I figured it'd be okay to put this thread here because at least SOMEONE must play guitar, or something... Or know a bit about this kind of thing. That and, I'm trying to learn guitar... I think I like Strats better, because those were the ones I picked out, that's what dad called them. I need to know... What are the body differences in the types of guitars that would affect my designs? Are there major ones? ...Help! just as feathery as ever | portfolio | a poignant quote |

It's your artwork...I don't see why not...As long as you don't directly rip off genuine Native American artwork, you should be free to use it...

Or a better question for understanding: How are you going to encorperate your designs with the guitar's body? That raven picture is not my artwork. That's exactly my point.
The designs will primarily be on the bottom left of the guitar (On the large lobe... thing...) or centred there with things decorating the sides... Oh hell, I'll draw some and show you. just as feathery as ever | portfolio | a poignant quote |

A circular design like yours might fit best on a Les Paul.

W.R., since the design is for your own guitar/personal use, and you're not planning on selling it for profit, then it should be ok.

I wouldn't see a problem either as long as you aren't selling it.

I agree with gaekwad2... you could prob. make a hole in the middle and put it on the pickup selector.
I play a les paul.
