Wouldn't it make sense, for artists to perform songs that are found on the "b-sides" if you will, of singles, or an xtra track from an import version of their album in concerts? I think it could definately raise import album & cd single sales.

No, no one would have ever heard the song before. The songs on B sides are exactly that, songs that weren't good enough to make it to the A side.

Not always true Most of the songs on B side, the record label didn't want released for various reasons. Albums are packaged for mass market appeal, so, if an artist/band has a couple of experimental songs that don't "fit" with the rest, then B side it goes. And then down the road, maybe a decade or two later, the artist/band *cough*The Cure*cough will release a collection of B sides that they will charge an arm and a leg for.Hey 'seer, how much did that box set cost?

i know a few bands who play b-sides live. it's all up to the individual bands, and what they think will go down well.

I assumed he was talking about the hit-'o-the-week type bands. It would be a good idea for the less popular bands, I agree.
For the famous bands it would be a bad idea. People pay for a show expecting to see all their favorite radio hits. |

It wouldn't matter where I heard a track (b-side or otherwise), I doubt it would make me buy a single as I prefer albums. Sometimes a band can get a good collection of b-sided and other assorted stuff and produce quite a good album from it, such as The Masterplan by Oasis.

Not me. I already know those songs and have them already. I want to hear something that is new and might be on the next album, something to look forward to. I came for the hatred. I stayed for the ballbag. |

I'm sure I'll get flammed for this: But I like Britney Spears. Well, there was a track that was not on the album at all that was really really good! It's called Intimidated - it was a b-side track off a single. I throughly enjoyed it more than some of the flop trax that made it to the album. I think if she did songs like that (i'm just using her as an example) should be done in her concert and it would raise a curious ear to try and find that track - it would bring up more sales. But with me, I just downloaded it
(i didn't just say that, did I?)

Fair point that a pop artsit could make something a bit differenet to attract them to a different audience. Kids, you tried your best and you failed miserably. The lesson is, never try. -- Homer Simpson |
