iPod MP3?
Does anyone here have an iPod mp3 player? I'm thinking about getting one but I might wait until the next one comes out. Post your thoughts here.

They look nice but aren't as nice to use as iRiver iHP series.

I have one: I bought it last year when there was still no competition.
I think today you're better off buying an iHP or Rio Karma, both of which have better battery life, features, and format support. Not to mention they're cheaper. I'd still argue that the iPod's interface is nicer though .

I read on HA that the 3rd generation iPods can't play 320kbps mp3 without heavy distortion, don't know whether that only affects cbr or also vbr that uses 320kbps blocks.

Never had a problem with that, got a reference?
I must have VBRs with 320k blocks, and I'd be surprised if I didn't have 320CBRs somewhere. For long you live and high you fly, but only if you ride the tide, and balanced on the biggest wave you race towards an early grave. |Musicbrainz|Audioscrobbler|last.fm| |

I can't say I've heard that, although I don't listen to my ipod that closely.
Anyhow, as I mentioned, the iPod is no longer the best deal around. The only conceivable reason you'd want one is if you were only concerned with the style, or for iTMS support (if you didn't want to use hymn). My RCA Lyra Jukebox works pretty damn well, great quality, cheap for the amount of space. I don't care about the features, as long as it plays the music and is quick.
Which is what mine does, plus a portable hard-drive, but I don't really use that much. Scotty Doesn't Know |

Once the 4th generation's come out, all the others are dropping price by $100.
I'd get a third generation for dirt cheap if I were you. The fourth-generation iPod is apparently taking out the buttons and using to the touchwheel to the full-effect like the iPod Mini. That's just pointless if you ask me. Scotty Doesn't Know |
