DVD-rom/CD Burner is dying.
So here is the story. My ODD is dying. It is a Samsung 332b Dvd-rom/CDRW drive. Sometimes when I put in a disk, it reads it, or atleast dignifies the existence of a disk inside it. But most of the time I have no luck and I can get diddly squat out of it. I ran a test today to see if it atleast read at 2X speed. It failed horribly. Does anyone know a way to fix it through windows? Or even a hardware fix? I think it is something with the motor, but I haven't even used it that much. 2 years old it was.

i have a cd burner made in '99. it's 4x2x24x. it takes 20 minutes to burn a CD but it gets the job done. but i think you should just spend about $40 on a new DVD drive and another $40 for a CD burner. or you could spend about $100+ for a DVD burner.
There is no sig. |

I have all of my slots taken up. Unless I get rid of my original hard drive and replace it with the one I have in one of those slots, I'll still have 2 slots and no money.

Combo drives are evil - I've gone through a few in my time. Buy an IDE card if you don't have enough slots on the motherboard, or splash out on a DVD burner - they aren't that expensive these days...
