Doom I I I
I bet you have heard about it, but I have it. I want to know what people think of the game AFTER playing it.
I know that I love the game. It is very exciting and very cool. I think some of the dynamic lighting is very cool and I can't wait to see what else it can do. -Duane |

I bought the game today...played it for about 30 minutes and had to stop to turn a few lights on.
The graphics are fucking amazing! I turned it up the highest quality and when I turn fast or have something jump out on me I would lag. Running a P4 3.2 w/HT, ATI Radeon 9800 Pro, 120 GB SATA HD, and 1 GB of ram. I wanan upgrade to 2 GB and better video card to see if I still lag. I recommend this game to anyone who thinks their machine can handle it, and I think HL2 looks a lot better than Doom 3 but I need both
I came for the hatred. I stayed for the ballbag. |

The Graphics still look amazing on my crappy ass computer w/ the Medium Setting. Also, I'm an id Fanboy and they never have made a bad game in my opinion. However, I would drop Doom 3 for CS:S anytime. I know that HL brought me in to the genre of First Person Shooters, but I mean, Doom 3 is a HUGE game, and 2004 is a HUGE year for First Person Shooters.

The engine is excellent, and the game is pretty well constructed. The way all the old Doom enemies and things have been integrated is excellent. The console thing is amazing, also.
But it gets kinda repetitive after a while. |

I'd say an 18 certificate is appropriate, yes. It graphically depicts violence towards humans and creatures which were once humans

I don't get all this crap about teenage violence linked to video games. I play tons of violent games and I haven't been in a fight since 3rd grade.
Oh and the doom movie idea Look at resident evil. |

I´ve been playing doom3 for a couple of days and I must say that it´s an impressing game. It´s quite stable and so, the only problem is that it refuses to output 4 speaker sound. But still with stereo the sound is very, very realistic. The sound engine without EAX support beats anything I heard before.
Even with my Gforce4 Ti4200 64 MB and a motherboard that doesn't support AGP 8x I'm completely stunned by the graphics and by the smoothness of it. And those light (or should I say 'darkness'?) effects... I never thought my XP2100+ with 256 MB RAM and the AGP stupidity mentioned above would give a nice doom3 experience, but, hey it works just fine, although loading a level takes 2+ minutes. And I´m scared stiff. It´s stupid that a Marine From The Future is not wearing night vision goggles or some helmet with a constant light, but it gives you that helpless and manic "swithing between flashlight and weapon" feeling, especially during the very first levels when you are contantly short of shotgun ammo and with only a pathetic pistol against zombies lurking in dark corners. |

This is no joke. When I played Doom 3 on my system, my mouth was watering. It was soooo much fun I loved every minute of it. I am a fan of Doom 2 and Doom. Screw the pretty graphics, the game play was sooooooooo goooooood I didnt even notice how smooth and crisp the models and effects were. Doom 3 brought back a lot of good memories.
I recomend every doom lover to buy this game. |

Doom³ is awesome. Damn, I love my flashlight...
The sound is amazing, but I think, you just can feel 100% Doom, if you have a 5.1 speaker system. With stereo speaker, you loose a lot of the Doom feeling. |

I'm a total id software fanboy too, I have (and still do) play Quake3 until I have to prise my muscle spasmed hand from the mouse, so I had been anticipating doom for a long time. Heck as soon as I downloaded it (yea yea I'll go and buy it legit soon) I ordered a whole bunch of new kit just so I could run it properly. Now I can almost run it smoothly on ultra with my 3 gig P4 (overclocked to 3.3) and GeForce FX5900xt
So what do I think of it now I've played it a lot? Well first of all the graphics engine is better than I expected... I mean 'breathtaking' isn't a word I would usually use to describe computer graphics but for D3 I'll make an exception. It needs a ninja PC, but hey, we're talking about an id software game here! Of course it needs a ninja PC, this engine is going to be used by so many games over the next few years (look at Quake 3, that engine was used by tens of games). I cant wait to see what people do with the lighting and physics, even Quake 4 will be different enough to be exciting. The game itself? well, here is where I'm not so happy... its fun and all, shutgunning a zombie in the face with pixel perfect accuracy and watching him disintegrate in amazing detail... but the gameplay style of 'walk into a room - it IS a trap' and 'see a blatant trap - walk into blatant trap - get killed by blatant trap' can be a little irritating. Having things spawn behind you does keep you on edge and can scare you but frankly I'm not looking for a game to keep my heart racing and make me jump, its not particularily fun. The original doom(s) were more about hordes of enemies not sneaking around and being surprised. Its hard to say all of the new stuff (like the lighting) is in the spirit of doom (doom didnt even have lighting!). Still....amazing engine

I couldn't resist. Nvidia introduced the 5900XT as a slightly lower-specced card, the idea being that people would then assume that the ATI 9800XT was an under-performing card. I don't think it worked that well... There's no need to tell me when I'm right; I operate on that principle exclusively and with absolute certainty |

1) Yea yea, I just dont usually like forking out £30 on a game (on my tiny student budget) if I'm not going to play it much. I will buy doom pretty soon, I owe it to Carmack 2) XT's are just the non-ultra versions of GeForce FX's, I havent checked but I dont think you can buy anything except an XT or an Ultra. 3) By 'Kit' I just meant computer hardware... 'Prise' just means to force something (usually open)... http://www.hyperdictionary.com/dictionary/prise Another note on D3... The idea of putting the level editor (D3Radiant) into the executable seems like a good idea, but the execution is all buggy. It needs some hacking to get it to run properly and you have to wait for Doom3 to load before you can run it (even with command line switches you still have to wait for Doom to load before radiant loads). The realtime rendering in the editor is pretty darn funky though. http://PAK-9.deviantart.com ...innit |
