Once again AMD has beaten Intel to the punch, by displaying the first working dual core system.

Good ol' Adblock. I'll just get a server chip that supports it so I have the option to go dual-processor.
I also heard that the AMD chips will have dual caches, which I heard is a bad thing :/ powered by C₈H₁₀N₄O₂ |

When the boundaries of science are encountered as far as chip-making goes, then the industry will turn to alternative methods on how to make faster chips. Better logic, more efficient programming and instruction sets, etc...

i agree w/ Darnley...organic is the way to go...
anyone? was this in a movie or is this real? i remeber hearing about jets that would use organic microchips...(they would have to be kept at 0 C) upon crash they would be useless and melt. or this just a goal? |

I have a friend who did his Ph.D on organic semiconductors. Apparently they're going to be very big in display technology, especially foldable/rollable computer displays.

I'm just glad they were able to capture the test data before the prototype melted through the system board.
But seriously, I'm curious about the operating temperature range of this new CPU, and average running temps for both idle and load. (The "details" page doesn't say.) I really hope AMD can consistently build cooler-running CPUs while maintaining the high-performance everyone expects based on their other product lines. As long as VIA chipsets are avoided, they've mostly beaten the compatibility issues that plagued them in past years. If they can make cooler chips, keep making them faster, and keep the prices just below those of Intel, they'll dominate the small system processor market within 5 years. At least things are better now than in K6-2 days. Even when you weren't having hardware compatibility problems (which were way too frequent), overclocking still required active fire suppression to be near by.
I'm a psychosomatic sister running around without a leash. |
