Microsoft Channenges Hackers to take down SP2

Quote:
Microsoft calls out hackers

C'mon geeks we will take you all on

By Nick Farrell: Thursday 09 September 2004, 08:23

THE MAKERS of the most secure operating system in the world, Microsoft is calling on hackers to try and take down its SP2 version of XP.
The fighting talk came from Vole's UK head Alistair Baker has told hackers that if they could get through a Windows XP system with SP2 running he would be impressed.

He said his company's Windows XP operating system update was the "first big line we have drawn in the sand" to combat security breaches and spam. Now while we are impressed with Alistair's commitment to his product, we do think he is asking for trouble.

Or even OpenBSD, but there are several answers more valid than Windows.

I'm definately not upgrading now, although I never put in SP1 either. I figure they;re always after what people are running so the old holes are no longer fun to mess with.

Lol, I said old holes.

doesnt have anything to do with it not installing on your particular install due to the key being tapped in incorrectly during install and just by chance working, but being a blacklisted key. Does it?

Nope, it's too easy to change the key anyway.

Honestly I think SP2 is a bunch of bullshit. The only difference I've noticed between it and SP1 is the Windows Security Center thing that annoys the shit outta me by popping up with this stupid message telling me to enable Norton whenever I disable it. I was really hoping SP2 would come with some visual enhancements instead of a bunch of seemingly useless security crap...

This is a sig of some nature.

Yep, who cares for security when it looks good. Same thing with some men's thinking about women. Who cares about intelligence when she looks good.

Hehe, you think SP2 is useless wait for Longhorn... or as it's being called now 'Little Steer'. The few would be nice enhancements are now being dropped and the only new features will be a new way windows animate and a new 'communications subsystem' whatever the crap that means. In other words more useless enhancements that will force everyone to buy CPU's twice as powerful as you already have. According to Micropoops own estimates it would only work on "maybe' ten percent of the PC's in use today or already manufactured.

Corporations are already balking saying the new WinFS feature was possibly worth the upgrade but since most haven't even upgraded past Windows 2000 Longhorn I have a feeling is going to fall flat on it's face like ME did. Linux vendors are salivating of course because they all now have time to catch up.

I won't be installing SP2. I won't be installing SP1 either. My PC is protected by non MS software and I've yet to have a single problem such as worms, intrusions or spyware ever get into it - and all that software came free to boot.

Ouch that is rough.

So a woman looking good is more important than if she has a brain or not?

And On that day, the Lords of the land said unto their Master Architect, "The temple you have made to the gods of Wasabi and Maki has brought us no great prosperity" and they sent out him into the lands.

As he traveled to a far off land, he found he wasn't traveling alone, but that he had gained companions, and when they found their new land, they started work on a new temple, one that would be OPEN to all who wanted to worship.

For some men, yes, definitely. For me, no.

Better them exploting holes in the safety of this somewhat-controlled environment so they can fix them, rather than unleasing worms onto the world. Think of it as hiring beta testers
