Yet another high cpu usage issue with Winamp 5.0x
Hello,
I've searched through the forums and found a lot of people having problems with Winamp 5.0x using up a lot of their cpu time but sadly none of the posted solutions helped me. I recently installed Winamp 5.06 (Full) though I had this problem with any 5.0x version so far. Whenever I run Winamp it uses roughly between 50% and 98% of my cpu usage, no matter if I'm playing anything, if I use modern or classic skins, if I use any DSP plugin or if I use any language pack. The cpu usage is always high, averaging around 75%. I have installed quite a few plugins, but I don't want to uninstall any of them before I'm sure which one is responsible. BTW, I also looked through the official 3rd party plugins bug thread but none of the problems named there applies to me. I also disabled my antivirus program but still no go. Is there any way to temporary disable all or some third party plugins without uninstalling them? This way I could check every plugin and see if it causes this behaviour. Any help would be greatly appreciated. My system specs: MSI KT6 Delta 1 GB DDR-RAM AMD Athlon XP 1800+ MSI FX5900SP VTD256 Western Digital WD Caviar (80GB) Maxtor DiamondMax Plus 9 (80GB) Windows XP Home SP 2 |

Yes, find out the actual filename of the respective dll files and then close winamp, go to the winamp\plugins folder, and rename all 3rd-party plugins to eg. gen_plugin-name.dll.off | in_3rd-party-plugin-name.dll.off | etc etc Reopen Winamp with just the default plugins running. If the problem doesn't persist, close Winamp and re-enable each 3rd-party plugin (by removing .off from the end of the filename), one at a time, closing and reopening winamp inbetween. At the first sign of the problem reocurring you'll know that the last 3rd-party plugin you re-enabled was the cause. |

It worked! The bad plugin turned out to be "Winamp Lyrics (Explorer version) v1.16 aka gen_lyrics_ie.dll. I uninstalled it (wasn't using it anyway) and now it's working great with a cpu usage of hardly more than 5% (even while playing & with modern skin). Thanks again for helping

Just reviving a thread because I can't find the answer anywhere else...
I just want to know if this is normal. The CPU usage jumps up and down constantly when playing a song (see below). The flat bit in the middle of the graph is when I paused the song, and then I de-paused it and the peaks came on again. Each peak is no more than 10%, but it's still a bit odd. Winamp was pretty much the only thing running. ![]() Specs: Winamp 5.04 WinXP, 2.04GHz, 384MB RAM, 5 GB of HD space left Any reply much appreciated. |
