Lost Wallet

Ok heres the situation. I lost my wallet 3 some years ago with 200 dollars in it. I canceld my account with BoA and got a new SS number because it twas in my wallet (never gonna leave that card in there again). Anywho A few weeks ago I got my wallet items back in the mail less cash and card. However my old style Washington State Drivers Liscence was still in it. The person says they found my wallet in a dumpster and that it was to beat up to send back the wallet. Would you send this guy candy and a thank you or would you be suspicious and send him nothing?

I'm Back?

I lost my wallet once. Turned up at the school office. All that was gone was my school ID and my cash (less than $10.)
I thought I lost it yesterday again, and I was scared this time as I had a bunch of cash, mastercard, Gap gift cards, SIN(SSN) Card, drivers license, two school ID and some other random cards. I ended up having put it in my binder and forgot about it.

If it had an ID in it, I would leave everything in it and return . But, if there was no ID and cash I would keep it.

What goes around comes around.

after three years you think the guy who found your wallet and took your money is going to mail the rest of your stuff back to you or just throw it in a dumpster?

Anyone who currently has their SS card (or similar thing in other countries) in their wallets, take it out NOW! SS will even tell you that that's the worst place to keep it.

I'd send the guy a quick thank you note. More than likely that person found your wallet honestly. And was probably hoping for a reward for returning it. In the note, I'd mention how long ago you lost it.

Yeah he left several ways to contact him. I'm sending him a package of Rocher candy and a thank you note but he wont get it until after Christmas because I missed the Wednesday deadline. Still he will get it before New Years. My SS card was stuck on the back of my wallet as if it were glued on by the rain. I hope he likes chocolate.

Well I voted before reading the story, I thought it was about returning a wallet. To be honest Id be suspicious. Whats he doing going through a dumpster? Why would the thief "beat up" a wallet? Im guessing he just couldnt be arsed paying the postal expense.

I lost my passport and wallet once. Someone found my passport and went to a lot of trouble to return it to me. I gave him 10 bucks or something. I met him face to face and could tell it was pretty unlikely he had my wallet.

I hate having morals. One time I found a lady's purse in a cart where I work (grocery store), when I was out gathering carts. Took a quick look through it to see if it had any ID in it, and there was a few hundred dollars in cash along with ID and several credit cards. I know that if I lost my wallet with a few hundred dollars in it, I wouldn't get it back. But I just couldn't take this woman's money. I called her house, left a message saying I found her purse, and she came in an hour later and retreived it. No thank you, no nothing, She just snatched the purse from me and left in a huff.

People can be so rude.

I guess you'd never find out if that guy who sent it back was the one who found it back then and stole the money but I doubt it. Why would he make the effort to pay the shipping for something that happened years back and the chance of you might not even living at the same place anymore and not answering?

It was nice of you to send the chocolate

I once returned a wallet I found at a bus station, there wasn't much money in it and no credit card but an ID, public transport card etc. which is always a pain to get back. That person sent me a couple of scratchcards so I may be as lucky as them, it was a nice idea and I won a couple of dollars

I lost my wallet at the local pub, and thankfully someone had handed it in the next day, so I could get it back - amazingly everything was still in it, including a tenner I didn't realize I had! I wouldn't really have minded about the money (or the cards really, I cancelled the lot about ten minutes after I left the pub...) What would have been annoying is losing the pass to get into work, and the actual wallet itself.

I don't carry anything else of any value in it - drivers licence etc. is all safetly left at home!

I experienced that in Switzerland, it's very likely that you get your wallet back if you just lose it not get it purposely stolen in the first place, friends of mine have lost their wallets, cellphones etc numerous times, mostly in the train and always got it back.

Once my boyfriend lost his wallet with a lot of money and his bank account card and various other things in it. He went to the police station and got the whole thing back - the only thing the person stole was a small black and white pic of me and my boyfriend

Not in the UK, if you get pulled over you usually have 24hrs to present it at the local cop shop.

Anyhow, send him a gift if you want or simply a thank you would suffice, I found a wallet in a car park last year, oddly enough had just over £200 in it as well as credit cards and stuff, as I was trying to set Jones jnr a good impression at the time, and because generally I'm an honest person, I took it to the local police station.

As it had bank cards in it's fairly easy for them to contact a bank, get the address and send it on, which I'm sure they did as I never heard anything back six months later to say it hadn't been claimed.

Anyhow, whoever the wallet belonged to didn't even bother to ring and say 'thanks very much, you just saved me 200 notes', and while I felt right in myself for handing it in, it's a real crappy feeling when no one thanks you for your honesty.

If you have it then good, if not present it the next day, you normally have to produce your insurance documents as well if you have a smash, and I'm sure no one carries those around with them...

Thinks back to last car smash...., nope, the police looked at my liscence the day after when they came to visit me at home...

It's called the seven day wonder.... under UK law you don't have to carry any form of ID for yourself, and only the tax and plates on your car.

All other documents (license, MOT, Insurance must be produced within seven days should you have a crash, or the police ask for them.

Actually, you're not legally required in the UK to have any form of ID at all, if you don't drive... but as everyone (well practically everyone) over 17 does, most people have one. Though it's only in the last couple of years that they've had photos on rather than being a bit of paper....

In the US (at least, in the states I've lived in), you usually wouldn't get a ticket, but, if you did, you'd be able to have it dismissed by presenting a valid driver's license to the county clerk.

Here in Washington you get a citation for not having your drivers license with you. Most times, you can get the citation dropped though.

It's common here in the States to keep an ID/DL with you at all times.

I guess I'll never know the fantastic journey my wallet has been on to find its way to a New Castle Dumpster. I never go to new castle. At least not back then. I like the scratch ticket idea though.

This is what I sent him for any who are curious.

Tiny question.
If you lost your wallet 3 years ago, what was it doing between 2001 and the day it recently fell into a dumpster?
You know damned well it wasn't in a dumpster for 3 years.
Slightly larger question.
Why was this twit dumpster diving and what for?

My guess?
Your wallet has been living on the streets homeless bumming change from passersby and not being able to save any money (wallets can't hold change for shit) the little leathery bastard started performing oral favors for crack having missed being close to yours for so long. Eventually, he pissed off some other homeless person by sleeping on their cardboard and was pummeled to death by a cinder block and left for dead in the dumpster.

SAD
