Intro File

Hello back!
I put an "intro" file in one of my folders. Then I edited the "sc_serv.ini" file, giving the name of this intro file + 24 --because this is the bitrate I broadcast (example: nameofhteintrofile24)-- and the path to this file on my hard disk. Finally I deleted the ";" at the beginning of the instruction, so it becomes active, saved the changes, and restarted the shoutcast server. Nevertheless when I go to monitor myself (127.0.0.1:8000) I can't listen to the intro file; only the music I'm streaming.
Any help about this, please?

in order for the introfile to work you need to resample it to the bitrate you use.
you cannot simply take a mp3 set at 192kbps and use it as your intro file if you stream at 24k

I suggest you use DbPowerAmp.

Well.....problem solved. I changed the bitrate and converted the intro file to mono. I could test it succesfully. Now, the question I made in my previous post, from my side keeps standing, if it is that someone can answer it:
If you MUST adjust the bitrate and channels of the intro file to match your broadcast parameters: What's the use of writing the number indicating a bitrate after the name of the file, as the instructions of the ".ini" file say?

Hey kanamaster,

I believe you have read the Intro File explanation wrong in the .conf. My understanding was you do NOT replace %d with your bitrate number. I believe you just add %d to the introfile.mp3 title (to introfile%d.mp3) and the stream will naturally adjust to whatever it needs to be.

Maybe I'm wrong. Just a thought...I'll be testing it myself tomorrow...

thats spot on ... so if you have like 5 intro files .. and

intro32.mp3
intro48.mp3
intro64.mp3
intro96.mp3
intro128.mp3

and in the config you have

intro%d.mp3

depending on the bitrate of the connection it chooses the correct intro.

This might be be silly, but I learn from asking and trying:

In the config file...........Should I literally write "intro%d" (assuming that the name of my intro file is precisely so: intro) including that that "%" symbol between the name of the intro file and its bitrate, or simply write the name of the intro file inmediately followed by the number indicating the bitrate, or should I write the name of my intro file followed by the "%d" --literally like this--?

you literally put

intro%d.mp3

into the config, so it would choose, say

intro64.mp3 if you are casting at 64kbps.

Well I might be learning something myself here. I didn't realize you would need to already have files like:

intro32.mp3
intro48.mp3
intro64.mp3
intro96.mp3
intro128.mp3

uploaded. I figured you could just have one intro mp3 at any bitrate and it would adjust to whatever bitrate the stream was playing at by adding the %d.

On the bright side I tested my first intro file this morning and it worked like a charm.

My problem is when I set the Intro file according to the config spec. The intro plays...then nothing, my music doesnt play at all even though its goin full blast. Any ideas?

Saved it at 64k bitrate. Show streams at 64k. All my songs are 128k and stream fine without the intro file at 64k. I put the intro file in and it plays, then nothing...dead air even though the songs are playing.

Nope! But I figured it out.

Saved the file as a 64k file, named it Intro.mp3 (forget the %d variable) saved a second copy to Intro24.mp3 at 24k for the modem line. Set the introfile in the .ini file to the file name and away it went. Files have to be saved at the stream rate. But if you do that and set the %d variable it wont allow Winamp to stream the files which have a different bitrate. I wasnt about to edit and save 5,000 files at 64k! lol

This is ridiculous. I have spent the better part of a week also trying to get this infernal thing to work.

What I have done is simply save the intro file in c:\ and in the conf i put the same the name c:\intro.mp3 as in above...this is on my own machine.

now i start the broadcast going. it plays the intro no problem...but it simply will not switch over to the broadcast when it has finished playing...the thing will play endlessly...and i dont how to get the thing to switch off the intro and onto the live stream...plz help someone this is real urgent.

If you set your encoder for 64k stream, then your intro file MUST be saved at a 64k bitrate. 24k stream, 24k Intro file and so on. I used CoolEdit to open the intro file then I saved it as a 64k Bitrate file. Even though my mp3's are 128k bitrates, its the stream that dictates and since the first file played will be the intro file it must be at the same bitrate as the stream.
