Looking for a plugin to switch between outputs
I have a few audio adapters on my computer, and I want the ability to switch between them without going through the preferences... any plugin that can do that?
Thanks. |

How often would one really have to switch that? I think the prefs are fine for what you want, unless you're looking for some kind of hotkey switching.
Then there's the ... "You can always write one yourself" ![]() Happy coding! Brian |

Strange... I was about to post a topic on exactly the same thing!
I have 2 sound cards connected to my PC... or more accurately 1 onboard and 1 seperate sound blaster for that lovely surround(ish) sound. I have the 4.1 (boo... need more) speakers connected to the sound blaster, and headphones connected to the onboard card. I'm looking for something that will let me switch outputs using a global hotkey. Also, since the media keys on the keyboard only let me change the volume of 1 soundcard at a time (without going through the control panel) it would be useful to have something that gives me a bit more control over the 2nd card. I don't have anything like enough programming knowledge to design my own plugin... unless there are any *free* tutors out there

The only thing I can think of is to use an Output Splitter/Stacker plugin.
http://www.winamp.com/plugins/details.php?id=86033 http://www.winamp.com/plugins/details.php?id=24984 http://www.adcock8.freeserve.co.uk/winamp.htm Make a copy of out_ds.dll, eg. out_ds2.dll Then use Output Splitter to make both instances of DirectSound Output active, with each one configured to use the relevant sound device (or just use out_ds and out_wave). The only downside here being that both will be active together, though you could turn the volume down on one or the other (speakers/headphones) if/when not required. |

Problem:
Having done all the stuff above, I rebooted my PC. Then realised that the onboard soundcard (which was selected as the default output device) automatically detects another sound card, and then switches it self off. D'Oh! Now I have 1 audio device (according to the device manager), and since windows only detects the 1 device, it seems have taken it upon itself to grey out the "make default device" option. Bollox. So now any time I start any program that needs sound, it detects no default audio device. Before I use winamp I have to go in and change the settings of my out_ds.dll plugin. Otherwise it just says NO! Anyone think of a way I can fix this without opening up my PC? |
