My New Site

So, here we are again, the classical spam topic "OMFG!1!!! Look @ my cool site"

http://mbnet.fi/apecat

(also available at http://www.apecat.tk )

Don't be confused be the different nickname (nybergh is nothing less than my real surname). I use "apecat" on most of the other forums/communities I'm active on.

Seriously, this site is even going to include a blog within a close future and I'd really like to do something nice of it. Now that a frind of mine is currently developing his own blog system I believe this site or something developed from it could be a nice base for a blog.

I need some comments and suggestions, this is really nothing more than a trimmed Dreamweaver MX2004 default template. I know the basics of Dreamweaver but I don't have any experience so if you see something really stupid, please "feed my back".

Just say exactly what you think.

And sorry for "borrowing" the smilies from this forum, just a temporary solution. Is it legal to use them on another site than this forum?

sorry, just had to

However, in all seriousness, you've taken the 'less is more' route I was talking about elsewhere, and for that I congratulate you.

hehe, what do you think I am? Some kind of photoshop wizard?

Yes, I'm gonna continue like that. Less work and one avoids being labeled "wannabe"

I like minimalism, I'm on dial-up, I've never seen someone putting on his site "in fact it's pretty much a Dreamweaver template without any graphical touch" and I don't even have a home page, so...

heh - I used that template on my last site but one...lol ^_^ Nice easy to use template. And it's not to hard to take that template upto xhtml 1.0 standard either.

Mine has made the transition to where it is now with a pagecell option. I'm gonna start playing with it a bit soon (Again) lol

I agree. Minimalism is good. Good colour scheme. I like the error messages! However, I don't like pages that start with an "enter" button in order to get to the actual site. Although yours actually has a bit of wit to it, it still is a bit unnecessary. Otherwise, me likes!

I see your point and share your oppinion. But I'm trying to create a workaround for the .tk system. Something like:
you go to http://www.apecat.tk
and your in that goddamn .tk cage when you even can't see the page title.
But... you click on a link that takes you to the "normal" first page, which now is visible as http://mbnet.fi/apecat/main.html.
(hope you understand it's. 3:28 AM here and I should sleep instead of posting here! )

It didn't work just like that. Even if you click the "Enter"-link on www.apecat.tk you will see the Main Page as www.apecat.tk. Suggestions?

Oh, yes, I see. I used to have a .tk domain for a site on a poison, but it got removed. Nobody went to it.
You could have a redirect script. Don't know if it would work. Google for it. Then when people go to the .tk address, the script sends them automatically to the mbnet.fi site. Hopefully it would escape the cage.

Its simple which is good but its too simple. You gotta add your personality. Like a partly opaqe watermarked background and other junk. What direction are you going to take it in design wise?

I need some stuff to put there before I can start dreaming about making it a portrait of my personality. I think my blog will do that when I get that working. And I'm not going to spend days to make that thing look good, I want to concentrate on the more important stuff like producing content.

But you're right, I must try to make the design match my personality a bit. I just don't have any ideas or material yet (not to say that I'm crap with photoshop)... Oh, wait OMG desperate this is soo desperate
A piece of music!!!!
just look at the main page and you'll see a link to my song!
Quote:
Update (December 25): I was asked to add some personality to this site. As an emergency solution you can all listen to my silly song, which I made in a music class during this autumn. The task was to make a song in Logic containing that classical Internet poem about to dead boys fighting. It's BAD, and I'm not playing any of the instruments becouse I'm not able to do that, I just put toghether a few pieces of notes and guitar samples two friends of mine barely had time to do just before the deadline. One of these persons are also doing the speaking part. He wanted me to edit his voice so I added that pathetic pitch effect. Actually the only instrumental thing I'm doing is "scratching" the strings of the electric guitar with a wooden stick in the poem section, really Jimmy Page "Dazed and Confused"-style ya know . This piece is recorded and edited entirely on a Mac using Logic 6 Gold at school. It was a fun class to have, I learned the basics of Logic, but I really should stay out of the music business. Even the strange drum rhytm that I thought was cool seems to irritate everyone. The file is in Ogg Vorbis format with a low bitrate so that even dialup people can download it and get almost decent quality. Feel free to redistribute for free as a bad joke, but don't edit the copyright tag!

Two Dead Boys (download Vorbis file)
Enjoy!

edit: corrected some stupid typos

LOOK, I'm on Google. Cool. And as the first link for "apecat"!
(a9 is google powered)

So, it seems like Google finds .tk domains quite fast. Too bad I left a stupid typo in the site description when I registered the domain.... I updated my .tk preferences and hope Google will recache it again soon.

[edit]Hey, my Wikipedia account is now as secound on the Google hit list. That's alsø cool

I tried to put in as many extremely popular search words, even if they aren't even related to my site at all...

By accident I hope? Or did you hope to find something like that, you pervert? Well I don't know exactly how many who have seen it without posting it here...

I think I'm going to remove it soon. It's at least slightly silly to leave it there now that my site is on google.

I had to remove my nice "hidden text" to be allowed in the Google AdSense program. Cool, I think I just sold soul. But i'm a poor student...

I've made TWO DOLLARS today! Damn, I'm rich!

[EDIT: Actually I'm not allowed to tell how much I've earned, so what I just did was very naughty]

Note that I didn't tell you to click on the ads on my site, becouse that's not acceptable according to the agreement I've signed

Your design is fairly pleasant, but it needs some work. Each piece feels disconnected. I mean, you need an overarching design flow - it looks, and feels, like "google ad->header->page->footer". All of those elements should seem to be one part, not seperate as they currently are.

Freedom of speech is the basic freedom of humanity. When you've lost that, you've lost everything.

Kinda agree that things don't have connections of where to find stuff, kinda weary to navigate with links to same thing only a few centimeters away, and unessecary many links to different stuff, sure this will be better when you get stuff to put in there, but the simplicity is nice, maybe a litte simple some places, but you can make perfectly good sites without images. One more thing, I HATE ADDS BY GOOGLE!!!!!!!! ARRGGG

pulse and xz, you just gave me the most useful feedback so far. thanks.

Yeah, I think I'll remove that "favourite apps"-list when I get something written in a guide/blog format. Too many outgoing links also damages the site's placing on Google...

Quote:
I HATE ADDS BY GOOGLE!!!!!!!! ARRGGG
I hate ads in general, but the only things googles's text-ads do is to clutter up pages it up with tooo much text in some cases where "pro-looking" picture ads would have been a lot better, and some bloggers already are very avare of their use of keywords. The Adblock firefox extension removes my Google ads automatically.
But unless you're really anti-google (GoogleWatch is a good site to check out now and then, BTW) I can't see why Pulse thinks Google ads are that bad, no possible jpg-viruses and stuff like that. I might change the ads to a scyscraper-format later on, but I will continue with my experiment (i simply need all the money I can get).
