Tune-in problems

Hi, sorry if Ive missed the answer to this problem in other posts...

I've installed Winamp, Shoutcast source and server ok, all running on one PC. The PC is part of a network behind a DSL router and I have set the port forwarding up as explained on this site. It seems to be correct beacause my station is recognised on shoutcast.com giving the details and option to tune in.

However, I cant tune in - the connection times out - and also the link http://192.168.8.3:8000/listen.pls wont connect to my station on other computers outside the network.

Any help would be much appreciated. Cheers.

Make sure that you "know" what the IP for the DSP/DNAS PC is at all times. ipconfig /all will tell you.

When you have PCs that use DHCP (not static) IP config their addresses will change -- the more PCs you have, the more likely they will get different IPs.

It is important that you assign a static IP to the DNAS PC so that your static port forwarding config will not become invalid. This is also helpful if your PCs need to communicate with each other.

Also, make sure that all of your PCs are using the correct and same subnet mask, or they will have trouble communucating with each other (but not the internet) -- the correct mask for 192.168.8.0 is 255.255.255.0, and all of your PCs and the router should have an IP that starts with 192.168.8.___.

Thanks for replying

There are 3 computers on the network and each have a static ip, 192.168.8.3 being the DNAS PC. The subnet masks are all the same as well and the computers communicate with each other ok...I dont know what else could be wrong...

When you make a request to the DNAS from other PCs, do you see the request in the DNAS GUI log?

And, What happens when you use the same IP http://192.168.8.3:8000/ from the DNAS PC with your browser?

Ohhhhh that explains everything

192.168.8.xxx is only available and known to YOUR PCs -- Everyone else must use the internet address that is found on your router. 192.168.is a private IP -- it is not known to the internet thanks to your router.

Learn your puiblic Internet IP here: http://djspinnercee.servemp3.com:11423/cgi-fx/bitrate -- add your port to the IP and this would be the IP you would give to others NOT on your LAN.
