I've been looking for a station that maybe doesn't exist. I want Eastern but not traditional - I want to hear Banco de Gaia, Delerium, Deep Forest, State of Bengal, maybe Shpongle... Eastern influenced dance and there doesn't seem to be a category or station for that. Even South American influenced dance but strictly NOT traditional, I gotts dance - anyone have this wisdom, information on a select genre that fills this void? Seems to me that this is the future of music - but who knows. Please e-mail me - andrew_draper@yahoo.com
thanks ~The Finger |

Mmm, that's the sort of stuff I used to play on Dream FM and at Megadog between 1991-9 ish, heh.
If you want to genrecise it, then I guess you'd call it Global Trance or World Fusion: http://www.global-trance.co.uk/musiclist.html I should start up my own shoutcast station one of these days... Try some of these maybe? http://www.etn.fm www.ets-global.org http://worldfusionradio.com http://www.globaltrancemovement.com www.radio-v.com |

Digitally Imported has a pretty good helping of that sort of stuff on their chillout channel, but it's all chillout so you won't get any heavier stuff.
I've also heard this genre called 'Asian Massive' which I believe was coined by Talvin Singh. I've also heard it called Bhangra after an area in India. I found this http://www.radioteentaal.com/ though it may be a little popier than you're looking for. This might be closer to what you wanted: http://www.ethnotechno.com/ A friend of mine has a radio show (like on the actual radio, not shoutcast) at Georgia State called Radio Madras where he plays stuff like this. |

well, the only way I know of to hear his show is to be in atlanta with a radio when his show is on. I think it's sunday nights from 7-9 on 88.5 I could be wrong, check the Georgia State website if you want to know for sure.
