HELP PLZ:files not playing on ipod
OK I have 2 problems that are related. First of all when I sync my ipod to my winamp library the sync doesnt complete, it says it's complete yet there is a different number of songs on my library and ipod, and it is in fact true.
And then when I try to play some ipod I recently sync'd it tried to play the file, but then just moved on to the next file.and for a whole album I just sync'd it would just keep skiping from song to song because none of them would play. The files are on my ipod, they just wont play. |

The files could be a format the iPod doesn't recognize. I sometimes get .ogg files on there that do exactly what you see.
And if they are surely .mp3's or another iPod recognized format, then they may be faulty or out of spec. One example would be 96kHz sampled files. My sound card can create various files at that sample rate, but I doubt the iPod would play them. Hope that helps. |

I'm getting something very simliar to this. i have 9.66 gigs of msuic i have ripped from cds. Yet after syncing or highlighting all of them and sending them to the ipod ( i haev tried both, many times) the transfer takes about 2 minutes (??? i mean firewire isnt that quick
) and only 450 megs are taken up on the ipod, and only 1 in about 25 files play, the rest are jsut skipped over, yet they appear on the ipod if your getting me. it worked all fine with itunes, and yes they are all mp3s, and a few i ripped with itunes in apple lossless format.i have also tried re installing winamp totally. Windows XP Winamp 5.08 Desperatly would like to use this plug in, as itunes is really quite useless with the filenames, but thats another story

My only guess is that the files are somehow not standard. Such as an invalid bitrate or such. Do these files transfer over properly when you use iTunes to put them on your iPod? If they still do not work after iTunes transfers them, then it is probably a problem with the file, and not the transfer. Do these files play on your PC? Both in WinAmp and iTunes?

I have this same problem. The songs transferred using this plugin show up on my ipod but will not play. They are just skipped over. These are all just mp3 files that play fine on my computer. I also tested a few of them by using itunes on another computer to transfer them to the ipod & they play fine if transferred this way.
So its very frustrating as I have a huge amount of songs on my ipod that are taking up space but will not play. The thought of now having to go through and delete them all off my ipod is very annoying. I would really love it if someone can help me. I was so happy to find a way to use my ancient Windows 98 computer with my ipod.....but I guess that was too good to be true. Windows 98 Winamp 5.09 2nd gen ipod w/most recent software update |

liliblue, since you are using Windows 98, there are many possible issues that could come in to play. With 98, you need to have properly updated USB and FireWire drivers. Since your problem seems to be local to your computer, I would suggest updating every driver that you can find.
sportsperson16 and impulsation, can you reply with either a success or failure on the transfer of those songs when using iTunes? Has anyone else been able to use those files with another computer or iPod? If they fail to transfer with iTunes, could you post those EXACT songs somewhere on the internet for us? If you need, I have an FTP site, and I can configure an account for you to upload the files to. For the record, I've used ml_ipod on 3 computers and 3 iPods so far. The only files that do not play have all been .ogg files that got on there from a manual transfer. Synch would have kept them off, but I don't use synch because I have many songs in my library that I don't need or want on my iPod. |

I can't believe no one has mentioned this as a possible solution. If anyone has played around with the software they might know that by going in to OPTIONS->PREFERENCES->IPOD SUPPORT->TRANSFER SETTINGS->ADVANCED and then unchecking USE IPOD MANGLED FILENAMES will allow you to write transfered songs to a different folder than the ipod would generally use. Yes, if you uncheck this box the songs with get written to your ipod, they will show up in your ipod's playlists, BUT they probably won't play.
Sure it would be awesome if this setting did work because we all know that apple uses some screwed up method for sorting your songs on the ipod's hard drive. So, to fix your problem just check that little box and the plugin will use ipod's "mangled" file system instead. Next you should delete all of those files from your playlists and then finally look in the ipod folder in windows explorer and delete any music files or music folders that are not in those F0 thru F49 (or whatever). |

I won't tell you guys to ignore pixelpile23, but read the text on the advanced file settings window before you uncheck this.
Will seems to make it clear that this is meant for devices OTHER THAN iPod's. Will also states that it is "highly recommended" for most users that you leave this checked. When it says "This does seem to work on some iPods as well, but is not recommended", I would think that odds are good that unchecking this box will only make things worse. But if this is already unchecked on your systems, then try checking that box and re-transfer those songs. I personally wouldn't adjust this setting unless I was prepared to lose all of the music on my iPod (in a worse case scenario). |
