Software to Archive / Record Line-In Audio? (Live Club Broadcast)

Hey Everyone,

I'm looking for a program to record audio through my laptop's line-in. Searching Google and HotScripts gave tons of results, but I'm hoping someone has used one in the past and is happy with it.

I'll be recording live DJ sets at one of our club broadcasts, so it'll go on for hours. A program that is relatively light (and gotta be stable) would be really good. Something to make mp3's on the fly and maybe even break them up into 30min or 60min files automatically. I have stuff like Sound Forge, but it's so massive that I'm pretty sure it's not the best thing for this. I'm guessing a small specific program just for line-in recordings is best.

Any suggestions?

Thanks so much,
rg.

PS: This thread is NOT about stream ripping, please do not delete it.

PPS: Yes, I know DSP 1.8.0 can archive directly; that's not what I'm looking for. Just a simple line-in recorder.

I have pretty good success with Audacity. Might want to do some tests with that. It's lightweight, and can record for hours...

if your looking for something that can archive and broadcast the show simultaneously, look into spacialaudio's simplecast software.

No, don't need to broadcast from this machine...just record [b/c I want to record at a higher bitrate (192) than I will broadcast (128)].

Anyone ever tried this: http://www.nowsmart.com/arwizard/ ?

Thanks,
rg.

PS: Vchat, good to see you back on the forums...been away awhile? (hmm, maybe I've been away too long)

Hey, dotme, thanks. I'll check it out. Btw, do you know if it can encode on the fly while recording? Can it automatically make new files every hour or so?

Thanks again,
rg.

yup. use goldwave myself and have been happy as a clam with it. unfortunately, as far as encoding on the fly, youre not going to find much out there.

Hey Everyone,

Just wanted to update this thread for anyone who searches for it in the future...

I ended up going with Audio Record Wizard, and it worked great. Does exactly everything I need it to do: Records line in (and bunch of other stuff), encodes to mp3 (or ogg) on the fly, makes a new file every X number of minutes, autonames the files, etc, etc -- and the sound quality was great. It was well worth the $25.

Enjoy,
rg.
