I also have an Ipod photo with songs disappearing. Itunes seems to be the issue here, however, the ipod doesn't even sync until itunes opens up.

Is it safe to uninstall itunes and still be able to upload/sync with just winamp?

Can you guys be a bit more specific? When you say "iPod gives me 37gig free but nothing as far as songs." Does that mean you have about 20 Gig used but you cannot access/play any songs on the iPod?

Sebboh, your issue sounds like that "Enable Disk Use" option in the FAQ (#5). Have you tried that yet?

Yes it has songs loaded, I can see and play them via winamp but on the ipod itself nothing, when you go to setting about on the ipod it shows Songs 0, capacity 55.7, available 37.3, this has happened twice now, resolution, reload iTunes, set it all up, uninstall iTunes and start synching with winamp but this takes about an hour to synch up 3,500 songs.

This is over my head and sounds like a problem for Will.

Are you using synch or do you manually send songs to the iPod? I wonder if you could fix this without reloading iTunes. Maybe just use the iPod updater to 'Restore' your iPod, and then put your songs on again. I know, that sucks for a solution, but it might give some insight to Will as to what is causing this problem.

I don't have any better suggestions for you, but my 30 Gig and 60 Gig Photo's haven't had this problem yet. Maybe it's an issue with the iPod not being written to properly at the close of each session. I think the database file on the iPod need to be updated before the iPod is disconnected. Can anyone confirm this?
