remote or local? whats the benefit? virgin

I am just trying to setup my own station. I am a competent person, but maybe not. I tried the remote thing thinking it would be more reliable or stable? But I dont know what to put in the port section? Tried 8000, 8001, 80, and 10. Press connect...nothing. Using 10 for the port seems to try to connect the longest but still nothing. Is local Ip easier to setup. Problem is I want to be able to hear my own stream and I dont believe I can. I tried the localhost:8000 thing and it didnt go.

Also do the mp3's just reside somewhere in a folder and they are sequentially played?

sorry for the newbie questions thanks

thank you nick I saw that tutorial and its actually the one I was using. However, I am not sure what to put in the "port" box under main, I am trying to setup the remote server. I am being hosted. Maybe I should go local host? IS one better than the other?

thanks

Remote is generally better if you have selected a stream host, because reputable hosts have the bandwidth to support far more listeners than you ever could from home.

Local hosting of DNAS = Cheap, but few listeners
Remote hosting of DNAS = Not Free, but more listeners

Hope that helps answer your question...

if you are hosting it on your pc then the default password=changeme
if you have changed it double check it in the config

there really is no other reason for getting invalid password apart from the password being incorrect or trying to start the wrong encoder to the one you have set up
