MIDI to MP3 or WAW - plugin
I've got Winamp 2.91 and I would like to know if it's possible to add some plug-in in order to convert MIDI files into MP3 or WAW. Thank you in advance

You could use the Diskwriter output plugin, to convert the midi files to wav wich is bundled with winamp.
Press CTRL + P go to Plug-ins -> Output an choose Nullsoft diskwirter plug-in. The next time you push the play button, winamp will convert your midi file to wave, instead of playing. This should work, I guess. ![]() Edit: Confirmed to work, take a look at JonnyMac's posting. Sure it works....
MIDI to WAV for Winamp 2.9x and 5.x If the MP3 Codec on your system is decode only, the Nullsoft DiskWirter may not have MP3 option in the 'Convert to format' box. In that case you can use a MP3 output plug-in (instead of NDW) to save as a MP3. Personally I prefer Peter's plug-in listed at the top of the link. BTW: Peter's (and maybe the others) MP3 output plug-in installs a MP3 encoder dll (lame_enc.dll) to the Winamp directory. Winamp 5 (Full and up) has a default and more recent one in the Winamp/Plug-ins directory. I suggest that in the MP3 output plug-in options you select Winamp's default lame_enc.dll file from the Winamp/Plugins directory. |

Unfortunately it does not work, with any MP3 encoder. Winamp just plays MIDI, also with MP3 encoder enabled

Have you read the whole thread, linked by JonnyMac?

Note, the pertinent setting for the MIDI plug-in is 'Device' tab > "Direct Music / Microsoft Synthesizer (with output)" from the dropdown list (see attachment below: MIDI_Settings.gif).
If I remember correctly using the DirectMusic devices requires at least DirectX 8.0 (or higher). So make sure DirectX is up to date for your system. I have successfully converted a MIDI file to MP3 using Peter's MP3 output plug-in. While using the "Direct Music/Microsoft Synthesizer(with output)" method, the music will not be heard during the process. When finished, be sure to change back to your regular output plug-in (DirectSound or waveOut). Usually DirectSound is suggested for WinXP or Win2000 and waveOut for Win 9x, ME or NT4. |

@ maxdark
I did not notice that you are using Winamp 2.91. Try updating to Winamp 5.10. Winamp 5 is the upgrade/continuation of WA 2.x, you may have better luck. |

you can go to the http://www.modplug.com and get the software program oliver made called Mod tracker. it will play midi files and you can save to all mod formats and to wav. plus you can add surround sound to the wav files.
mod tracker is free. |

I realize that this thread is quite old. But, it's the first hit I get when I Google for an answer to this same question in the OP.
I'm using the latest version of Winamp and am attempting to convert a few MIDI files to MP3. Using the steps as posted earlier in this thread, I'm getting the MIDIs to convert to LAME MP3 just fine. But, the problem is that the play time is reduced to less than half the original play time of the MIDI file. Is there something I can do to correct this problem? I've also tried converting from MIDI to WAV and, although the play time is closer to the original, it's still reduced significantly from the original play time. EXAMPLE: MIDI play time: 4:38 MP3 play time: 2:05 WAV play time: 4:02 Hope someone can help on this. I've tried doing a batch conversion as well as a single file at a time. No go either way so far. TIA for any help. |

OK, so, I can't edit the above post due to the time limit restrictions.
The problem with the conversions is that the files are playing TOO FAST. Is anyone still here? I posted nearly 12 hours ago and there's been not even a single response.

only way to convert midi to other format is to go to wav by playing the midi and recording a new wav with a wav editor.
mod plug tracker is an editor that can do that but there is a new wav editor out that you might like better. go to freeware site majorgeeks.com look for the audacity program check its features out and its settings before you even try to use it. then all you need to do is start recording from your sound mixer on your system, try the what you hear, mixer if you have that one, or the syth, mixer. then all you have to do is edit the new wav and export it as an mp3 or ogg file or wav and use another program to convert the wav to mp3. this is how i've had to do all the midis i had that i wanted in another format. if you are using pipe organ midi's then you will want to check out the miditizier program at virturalorgan.com here's the forum link http://site.virtualorgan.com/community/ thats all i can help you with as there is no midi to mp3 converters that work. you must re record a new wav file in the editor while playing the midi in winamp or other player. winamp use to have a plugin that was a stacker. it would let you put in the wav out dll and the mp3 out dll or mp3 converter plugin. then you loaded the stacker plugin in to winamp and used it to hear the song and the song would be automaticly converted to the mp3 file while you played it. but i have not used that stacker for a very long time. as a matter of fact i use mediamonkey as the main library organizer now and use winamp to watch my avi effects when i play music in winamp i found it easier to use multiple programs because no one program can do all things. |

rovingcowboy,
I hate to tell you that all of what you posted above is wrong, but, the fact of the matter is, it's not useful at all. After the frustration I had with WinAmp's conversion settings, I found another ... totally free ... little app that DOES convert MIDI to MP3, WAV, WMA, and over a dozen other formats ON THE FLY and it does a very good job of it, too. You can add several files, set up the directory to which you want the files saved, setup the quality, hit CONVERT and let it do its magic. It's so easy to use I had the first file converted within 5 minutes of downloading the application...including installation. Since this is a WinAmp forum, I won't post a link to the free little app I found but, if someone wants to PM me, I'll be happy to provide the information. |

well not all i said is wrong.
as you do convert midi to wav that way. but since you said you found a program that converts midi now. then since the last time i tried to find one of those, and did not. the part i said about it only being done by recording a new wav is wrong according to that app you found. if it works on all computer systems,? if not then those whom have the system it does not work on will still need to record a new wav file as i said above. i am glad you found an app that does it now. that might possibly be useful to others here too and as it not being useful that is only to you. there are others that might find it useful to know how to do it. |

I can recommend a special program for converting, MIDI Converter Studio MIDI Converter Studio. Use it for more than a year. Its main advantage is that it converts file quickly and in good quality, with the capability of choosing different soundfonts.

Plugin is too slow, especially for batch conversions. Here is a specialized MIDI to MP3 converter: MIDIRenderer
