Dumb Question I'm Sure!

Alright folks, forgive my stupid question. But i've been looking around these forums forever! And can't seem to find the answer to this very simple question (in my mind anyhow).

I'm currently a DJ for another net station...I also work in the terrestrial radio industry. After seeing the way this other net station is running their station, I can't bare to DJ for them anymore lol It sounds horrible I know.

My question is this, how simple is it to start my own station and what exactly do I need?

#1 - I'm currently using Sam2 for this other station, could I just use it for mine?

#2 - I'm assuming i'd need a website for which people can visit and grab the stream from right?

How much would it cost to host this stream? And how would I go about doing it? I'm more then able to run the station from my computer..but wasn't sure If I had to get some kind of hosting package so that people can tune in?

Thanks in advance,
Dan

#1 you can use Sam2 if you like but you'll get no support for it here as this is Shoutcast, you'll want http://www.spacialaudio.com/ for Sam2 support.

#2 You would be better off creating a website than relying on the Shoutcast directory which does list you for free but isn't overly reliable.

You can easily run radio from your computer provided you have the bandwidth, an average 2mbit home connection will not serve many, you'll get about 8 listeners on 24kbps before buffering. You might like to use a remote server www.radiotoolbox.com/hosts although these are never free.

There are tutorials on how to get up and running found here on the forums, check the top 'sticky' threads here and in peoples signatures, I have one in mine for example.

Hope this helps a bit.

If you run into problems, always try the 'search the forums' function before asking questions, undoubtedly your questions will have been answered before. Of course, if you're very stuck we will offer you help.
