Streaming from a dedicated server
I'm very new to this, so I need help on how to actually set the whole thing up. I've tried setting up my own computer as a server. With failed results, I could never get people to connect to me. I found the root of the problem was that my router has an automatic firewall on it that no one in my house wants to turn off.
So, I went out and actually paid for a web server that hosts 75GB of bandwidth a month for 5 bucks. I spent a bit extra for a dedicated IP and domain name, just so i could stream my music. The problem now is that I have no clue how to set up a streaming, remote shoutcast server. I want to send the stream from my computer to the remote server, then have the remote server be able to broadcast to whoever clicks a link on the site. I don't know where to begin, though... Any help or links that could help me out with this would be much appreciated. |

you have a little problem in the sense of the chances are you cannot set up shoutcast on a webserver,
before you go any further check with the hosting company to see if you are allowed, once you have a confirmed yes from them you can proceed but its pointless trying to set it up if you dont have the access you require to do so, this might help,,,, http://forums.winamp.com/showthread....highlight=root |

Ditto. A webhosting account is not the same as a dedicated server. Webhosting accounts generally comprise of a set amount of space and bandwidth and only run the webserver app and occasionally also allow FTP access and are not allowed to run additional applications.
A dedicated server is a server that no one else has access to. You can run pretty much any application you want on it including www, ftp, dns, mail servers and even shoutcast servers (anything that is allowed by the ISP). You also have root level admin access and usually either remotely access the desktop or access it via SSH. From what I read there are no 'dedicated servers' for $5.00 so you likely have a standard webhosting account that would not allow additional software to be installed.
