No.
SHOUTcast is free. You may have to pay to air certain content however. For example, if you play music that is protected by copyright, you cannot air it without permission from the composer and performer, or alternately paying royalties. If you air your own voice (talk radio) or unsigned artists that have given you permission to play their music, you don't generally have to pay to play. Hope this answers your question. |

You're asking if you can run SHOUTcast on your web server? If so, we can't answer that - you have to ask the owner of the server.

Put it this way:
The Shoutcast software (both the DSP plug in for Winamp and the DNAS server application) are free to download and use. Streaming from your own computer is also free outside of the price you pay for your internet connection. There are a few ISP's which frown on this though but that's few. To stream from your home PC to an outside server owned and operated by another almost always costs. One thing to remember though - if you are streaming copyrighted music you can be held liable for royalty payments irregardless of how small you are. You can stream privately to a few friends (there is a public/private setting in the DNAS server app to control this) and not be listed and likely never have to worry about it. If you plan on streaming to the general public it would be wise to look into one of the royalty payment organizations like Loudcity or SWCast who can take care of these things relatively cheaply and although there have been few if any stations busted for not paying royalties it could happen at any time. If you have written permission from the bands to play their music it's ok. Hope this helps. Megarock Radio - St. Louis Since 1998! Don't click this link! Corporate Radio Sucks! No suits, all rock! |
