Crashes when playing mp3 with ID3-Tag containing "á"

Winamp (5.12) crashes when playing an mp3
(Nullsoft decoder 3.4, direct sound output v2.42) that contains the character á.
See examples "Mana - crash.mp3" and "Mana - ok.mp3".
Both contain the first 5 seconds (guess that's ok for copyright) of the song "Traiconera mariposa" by "Maná".
The crash version has the ID3-Tag for Artist set to "Maná", the ok Version to "Mana".
The ok version plays here, the crahs version crashes.

This used to work with the previous version.

Confirm a clean install of 5.12 with no 3rd-party plugins.

Installation is ok.
I think I found the bastard: I'm using the german language (Deutsch_v_bn14)!.
When I switched to english (US) both files were played.
Then I tried to switch back to german and couldn't start winamp anymore. I get a black window with red letters saying "Script Failure" and "Guru Meditation #0021.00680A68.11 Script Fatal Error scripts/beatvisualization.maki"
I edited winamp.ini and changed the langpack-Entry back to "English (US)" and then I could start winamp again.
I removed "Mana - crashed.mp3" from the playlist and can now start winamp again with the german languagepack.

Yeah, language packs are also 3rd-party and not supported here.

There's a few known problems with the German language pack:

Unless the author updates it soon, I guess the language pack will need to be removed from the winamp.com database.

I realise this thread is old but I feel that my input here is needed.

I too have experienced this problem and after a good bit of looking, I found the source.

There was two files on my computer, one called beatvisualization.m and the other called beatvisualization.maki , the latter (beatvisualization.maki) appeared on the red text, black backgrond message on my computer screen.

These files are located in [DriveName]:\Program Files\Winamp\Skins\Winamp Modern\scripts

Since I love winamp, and I trust it well, I have left the files there, but also because I don't want to risk removing the files and messing up Winamp and have to re-install it.

I have installed winamp v5.24, the same "guru meditation" error appears after a movie (.avi) is played. What could be the cause of the problem?

I had this error message, which appeared to be attached to my desktop, asking me to "click here".

It scared the crap out of me, because if you check out the screenshot posted by kshakes, you'll see there's nothing to indicate that this is a WinAmp error message, and I thought it was indicative of a virus infection.

Someone needs to address this.

We can't reproduce the problem on a clean install of 5.31, although it did occur sometimes on Winamp exit with versions older than 5.31 & 5.3.

It's basically a wasabi engine error message relating to the beat visualizer in the Modern skin main window, and is usually caused by some bad 3rd-party plugin or language pack (as in the case above), or can happen with some 3rd-party Modern skins.

Note that the occurence in pre 5.3 was being caused by a bug in pmp_p4s.dll (PlaysForSure Portable Device plugin included with the default Winamp distribution), but has long since been fixed.

Maybe some requirement could be placed upon 3rd-party developers (if that's the cause) to produce error messages to a WinAmp template, preferably one that doesn't look like the result of a virus infection!

I have yet to find a solution to this problem, it doesn't matter what skin I use, Winamp still crashes. I recently started getting BSOD's while running Vista Ultimate, though I don't know wether the Winamp errors caused the BSOD's or other way around. My Winamp is always running though, as I love my music, so I neglect to close down Winamp before shutting down, this shouldn't be a big deal, but I think it is now, because yesterday while I was shutting down, I got a BSOD and the goodbye screen which was really weird to me.

I'm not running any third party programs/plugins/skin etc etc.

I did a virus scan earlier today and there was nothing.

Theres no studio file thingy in my Winamp directory.

I'd love to get Winamp working again without having it crashing whenever I skip a song.

Well, I just needed to listen to music, so I completely uninstalled Winamp and deleted the folder, and isntalled fresh. When doing so I noticed that a plugin called gen_logitechlcd.dll was giving trouble, this plugin I'm guessing is used by my G15 Logtitech gaming keyboard, and the reason the producers from Winamp can't "reproduce the problem" is because they most likely don't have G15 keyboards.

The point being though is that a clean install did it for me. Good luck to everyone with the problem.
