I can't contribute to your list, but I had to post anyway. Your name doesn't, by chance, come from the Nine Inch Nails song, does it?
I saw that and just had to ask.
Spiral out, my friend. You will find your way back to yourself, we all will. I'll be waiting, and shall see you on the other side... |

In order of holiness:
Discogs: For the serious collector, it focusses on the actual product (LP/CD/MP3) and has immaculate attention to detail/accuracy. It's ended up being absolutely huge, so 9 times out of 10 you'll find what you're looking for. When you get beyond the artists and start collecting labels, it comes into its own. Allmusic: For the amateur collector, a decent reference guide of music history. It's not always accurate as it employs "biassed" music journalists, but I suppose it's better than nothing. There are still plenty of blanks though (artists or in some cases whole genres missing). Album Art: Amazon, Discogs, Google Images. Hands up who hasn't typed rude words into the latter. ![]() Player: I stopped using WA in 2003, the 5 series had become ponderous, lacking in all areas and even worse, a resource grabber. There's much to be said for complacency (lads). The successor (and future), MediaMonkey was good to begin with but it keeps getting better. It's deservedly approaching it's 1,000,000th dload. It doesn't require any salesmanship or spin, the product does all the talking. Moan: Wikipedia??? The thing with Wikipedia is, it can't piece together the jigsaw like dedicated music resources can, it gives you half a cup of information (at most) and slaps you on the back. I'd say it does more harm than good, as it accepts entries without expert ramification. |

Where I get my metal news:
http://pitriff.com/ It also reminds me of MidnightViper all the time, probably all the Zakk Wylde news they cover. http://www.roadrunnerrecords.com/blabbermouth.net/ is another source I use. The only band forum I belong to is Queensryche's but you have to pay fan club dues to be a member. |
