Source & SC serv on same PC?

Greetings,

Just curious if anyone is running both the Shoutcast Source and the Shoutcast server program on the same PC. I know it can be done, as I have done it at home numerous times...

But this is for a work setting with 20-25 listeners most of the time. I am wondering if it will choke or have issues once more people listen to it.

The machine is running a 2.8 gHz dual core Pentium D with 1gHz of RAM and a 4mbs connection to the outside world. I am also running 3 streams, a 128K stereo MP3, 56Kstereo MP3, and 24K mono
Thanks

The source does the same amount of "work" regardless of the number of listeners the DNAS supports. As a matter of fact the source does more work to produce a 128kbps source, than a DNAS sending that same 128kbps stream to 1000 listeners.

Check your CPU utilization while both are running [taskman], and you'll see that your DNAS [sc_serv*] will never use any CPU st all -- all of the CPU utilization is in the source production. The DNAS bandwidth need increases as listeners are added.

When the DNAS and source are on the same box [and using 127.0.0.1 to connect them], the source to DNAS connection will consume zero LAN and internet bandwidth.
