Pan settings not working

I did the obligatory search and didn't come up with a match, so here it goes...

I am now running both the SCServ and Source on the same PC. Previously I was running sound into another PC on our network and then pointing it to the server, but the old PC died.

Anyways, the new PC has audio coming in via the Line In input, but the right channel is significantly louder than the right. I've played with the DSP settings, checked the source and it is a true stereo source with no problems, and the pan settings on the soundcard don't do a darned thing.

Any other advice? What gives?

Machine is running a SoundMax, could that be the problem? Time to pony up and throw a PCI audio card in?

There are two Win mixers, Record and Output -- open them both and check the L/R PAN on the line-in for both -- if they both check out OK, check the cable (by replacing it) -- if still no-go, the soundcard may have a burned Line-In channel -- try the MIC input and compare... The MIC input is often MONO, so if you still have balance problems, your problem may be in the output channel (do other soundcard sources play fine?).

* I also know of many WinPCs that have balance problems after boot up until either the master volume or the input slider position is changed -- I never found a fix for this, or the exact hardware/software conditions that cause it, but moving sliders corrects it until the next reboot.

When debugging, the DSP, WinAMP, and Soundcard's VU meters can help you visualize the signals in addition to your ears.

Thanks, cable checks out fine, but I'll try the reboot and see if it works. I just hate kicking off the existing listeners, but maybe my PC is having a "Microsoft Moment".
