Shoutcast DNAS blocks internet

Hi there,

I've got a weird problem.
I start Shoucast DNAS, winamp and I connect. Everything works, but when I try to open a new window in IE it cannot find the page (google, whatever).
Meanwhile I am online on MSN, and on a site that was allready opened. There i can continue chatting (shoutbox).
But nobody can here my music.
As soon i've killed the server, i can open new windows in IE again.
I've tried winamp 5.x, winamp 2.06, shoutcast 1.9.4, shoutcast 1.9.5, shoutcast dsp 1.8.2 and shoutcast dsp 1.9.0

I also disabled windows firewall, anti-virus. But i still have this problem.

any help?

First, shoutcast is probably not killing your internet connection unless your line can not support what you are doing, which is possible.

1. http://www.speakeasy.net/speedtest/ -- check your speed and remember that you only care about the upload speed.

2. check out this for how to set SHOUTcast up: http://www.allinternetradio.com/shoutcast.asp

3. check out www.portforward.com to figure out why no one can hear your music.

4. check out www.whatismyip.com to figure out your IP address to give people to tune in at (http://IP_Address:8000/listen.pls)

5. check out www.canyouseeme.org while broadcasting, type in port 8000 and 8001 --- if both are successful then you have done everything properly.

6. READ the stickys .... all of this information is already here: http://forums.winamp.com/showthread....hreadid=246636

I hope this helps

same..

Hi... I'm having EXACTLY the same problem... And I don't know what to do either..
My connection details:

Download: 316.0 KByte/sec

Upload: 51.0 KByte/sec

Connection: 687.0 Conn/min

Ping 27.0 ms

I'm not blocked....

Success:
Your ISP is not blocking port 9000
Success:
Your ISP is not blocking port 9001

(I've changed port to 9000/9001, 8000 was already in use)

how many users/what bitrate are you trying to broadcast at. It may be that you are overloading your connection so that nothing else appears to work....

Disable Norton Internet Security and other activity-based monitoring/firewall software, including stealth stuff like Cybersitter etc.

Also on the router make sure you set up port forwarding not port triggering.

Download: 316.0 KByte/sec

Upload: 51.0 KByte/sec

51k/sec is enough for one listerns at 48k/sec or 2 at 24k a second. Any more than that and you internet is tank/used/hogged down by shoutcast streaming. You need more than 128k upload to be stable (my opinion)

I may be wrong (it's been known to happen) but I think the speed was K Bytes, not K Bits. If the speed really is 51 KByte, that should equal about 400kbps upstream.

He's not the first to post about launching a DNAS that kills internet access for the PC its running on, but I don't remember one post like this where we ever heard back from the poster to indicate if the problem was resolved, and what it turned out to be. Hmmm...

I did another "speedtest"...
The results are KByte/sec... But, maybe the website is wrong... See screenshot here: http://img116.imageshack.us/img116/9775/speed6pt.jpg

Shoutcast:

Mp3, 24 kbps, 22.050 kHz, Mono,
Maxusers: 2

I forwarded everthing right...
I can see the server details @ http://«my-ip»:9001/

bad 49k/sec upload. at your bit rate 2 listerens and you will have shit for internet connection.

your screen shot sucked its hard to read , www.speakeasy.net/speed , look at the UPLOAD speed, that is what matters for a server of any type.

Yeah - post speed test results that show KiloBits, not Kilobytes

Here's another site that will give you your numbers...

http://www.testmy.net - Upload test.

dotme.

I think that the last person that had this issue, was using 200% of his network upload for just streaming, and had malware and other crap running that was also using up bandwidth.

I could assume that some ISP that do not allow servers to be run based on their TOS, could in fact kill or throttle the customers connection when they see services listening in an establish state ? Don't know what ISP he has but I would like to see what happens if he contacts the ISP for support with server applications running on his internet connection.

Cheers

416k / BITE RATE = USERS

e.g. 416k / 24= 17.33 (be safe and allow 1 less, so 16)

However that may only be a little peice of the problem, what if you router/modem can only handle a few NAT connections and it would die to a crawl if you have shoutcast or other high bandwidth going. I would get your ISP involved as well if they provided you with any of the hardware.

@stevenhuyps - Okay, so when you run the DNAS, you suddenly can't surf the net any more? How long after you terminate (kill) the DNAS can you surf again? Are you certain you're not running any kind of intruder detection software on your PC or router?

I'm grasping at straws here - but either your PC is blocking the internet in response to a perceived threat, or maybe your ISP is in response to an incoming request from the YP directory tester.

hackerdork raises a very good point. Some ISP's flat out kill your connection for a period of time if their equipment senses that you're "hosting"

If you have more than one PC at home, see if the other one can still surf when you fire up SHOUTcast.

When I run shoutcast, I can surf the internet on a browser I'd opened BEFORE I started shoutcast. That's totally no problem. But, if I open a new browser, then the new browser does nothing (old one keeps working). MSN keeps working as well if I start up shoutcast. Other pc's connected to the same router seem to have no problem at all...
I've nortorn antivirus, nortorn antispam and nortorn internet-security running on my pc. But, if I turn them off, I've still got the problem...
