Winamp and Windows volume

Before I reformatted my computer a few months ago, I could turn down the winamp volume and the windows volume wouldn't change Ever since I installed Winamp the are connected. If I turn down Winamp, the windows volume gets lower also.

The only thread I could find to this issue was http://forums.winamp.com/showthread....=windows+sound

but that didn't help.

Running XP and Winamp 5.12

Any ideas?

Preferences > Plugins > Output
Select DirectSound

Changes don't take effect untill the next song is played. DirectSound's volume is totally independent from Windows.
