A new build? Please read

Okay, when I launched my Winamp (5.24) a few minutes ago, I was prompted with a box asking if I wanted to jump to a new build that came from nunzioweb.com.

The file that I downloaded (but have not installed cause I don't know what the heck it really is) is named: Jump_to_File_Extra_v0_97_7_(Build_49)

I went to the website and I can't figure out what the heck it's about. Can anyone help? I apologize if I placed this in the wrong area.

It's the new release of DrO's Jump To File Extra (JTFE) plugin, that is pre-bundled with Winamp (an invaluable feature, btw). Winamp is checking for a newer version/release of the JTFE plugin, and one exists. Going to nunzioweb.com as you did won't reveal much about the plugin, but DrO's site is hosted at nunzioweb.com, as is the latest release of the plugin.

Just accept and download/install it.

P.S.
You are using Winamp 5.24. Are you aware that Winamp 5.25 beta has been available since 7/26/2006 ?

*Note: if you install 5.25 beta it might be a good idea to also then install the latest release of DrO's Jump To File Extra (JTFE) plugin.

I didn't know that a new version was available because I checked the website just yesterday and it still said 5.24.

What does this Jump to plugin do?

Thank you for the help. I panicked and started up one of my anti-virus programs thinking it was trouble.

its a plug-in not winamp itself.

That's because it's still in beta phase, and the Winamp.com website will be updated once it becomes 'official'.

It does a crapload of good things. Pressing 'J' once a playlist is loaded will allow you to jump to any file in the list, enqueue a number of files, search for files, etc., etc.

It's very configurable, including the ability to be displayed with the current skin.

All configuration options are available within CTRL+P for Winamp Preferences > General Preferences > Jump To File

Winamp already does this. Just right click on any song in the playlist, go to Jump to File and a box will come up. I type in any song title that's in the playlist and I can jump to it or move it behind the current one playing. I can also enqueue the selected song. This came with Winamp 5.24. I don't see what makes this plugin any different. Heck I don't even know what enqueue means. LOL

Winamp already 'does this' because DrO's JTFE plugin has been pre-bundled with the official Winamp distro for quite awhile now. What makes this one 'different' is that it is a new release and the changes (for the better) that were just made by DrO were not made in time for the 5.24 (or even the beta 5.25) releases.

Again, just download/accept it. It's a 'newer and improved' version. It will also probably be included in time for 5.25 once that goes from it's current 'beta' to 'official' status (when 5.25 is offered for download at the Winamp.com site itself).

What more could it possibly do that this one doesn't? I don't need alot of fancy addons for Winamp. All I need is the shoutcast source for what I do. If this comes with a future version of Winamp then cool.

What I would really like to see included in Winamp are better Crossfading controls.

DrO fixed existing 'bugs' in the plugin. If you simply read what I already linked to, what was fixed is all listed in the Jump to File Extra v0.97.7 (Build 49) Development Log.

No fancy add-ons, as you said. But lots of bug fixes, as you will see if you read the log.

Anyway, do as you want. Stay with the current bugs in the plugin, or download/install the newer release, which fixes those problems.

I'm done... 'nuff said.

the update check for the jtfe plugin is off by default so at some point it's been enabled on your install (trust this to happen the first time i change the file on the server to indicate a new version in ~2years, heh).

basically the plugin extends the basic jump to file dialog (without the plugin there's no enqueue, move after current buttons, etc on the jump to file dialog). it also gives the other main benefit of allowing 'q' to queue the next tracks to be played without fudging your playlist order (or 'm' to move the files after the current track). if you're not using the feature then you can happily ignore the upgrade and uncheck the option at the bottom of the jump to file preferences page.

I never noticed any bugs or problems but that may be because I don't know or use the features listed on the link that Bubba provided.

I don't know what the winshade is. I've never seen anything called a "Missing Files highlighter." I never use the Remove Duplicates feature cause I try not to put duplicates in my playlists in the first place. I don't know what the "colouriser api" is. It's always worked just fine for me. I've never had any problems with the Jump To feature.

If you check 'Use custom fade time', be sure the fade time is set higher than 0 (set it to about 2000, 3000, whatever).
