gen_msn possible problems
I'm a disc jockey for a net radio station and we are currently experiancing alot of buffering with different disc jockeys. I believe all of us use WindowsXP. Some have recently installed the gen_msn plugin and they think that may be the cause of the problem (the buffering). However I've had it installed for some time and had no problems. I did notice on the Winamp reviews page that there is a .024 version http://www.winamp.com/plugins/detail...9&show=reviews
however I can't find it. I don't know if upgrading to .024 would help or not even if I could find it using yahoo. Any suggestions? Thanks in advance. |

Well, the author of the plugin, Shane Hird (forums member shaneh), makes mention of a 'special build' of the gen_msn plugin in this post. However, he doesn't indicate the version number...

gen_msn shouldn't be the cause of your buffering problems. Its a very simple plugin that just sends a simple 'update song title' message to the MSN/WLM messenger window. It doesn't affect your network speed etc, which i suspect is the cause (possibly some spyware or other network intensive app running in the background?)
gen_msn v0.24 should not be used, it was built for the beta versions of WLM which had a bug which required the titles to be updated in a different way. v0.23 is the one you want. If you still suspect it is caused by gen_msn, simply removed the gen_msn.dll file from your plugins directory and see if the problem still exists. |
