Tired, Frustrated and Confused (Please help!)
Okay I got a Linksys router and hooked it up this evening. I'm tired as can be. After I got everything running, I laughed my shoutcast DNAS and then lauched winamp. I tried to connect but I got this error message from firefox.
Firefox can't establish a connection to the server at 70.35.170.158:8000. * The site could be temporarily unavailable or too busy. Try again in a few moments. * If you are unable to load any pages, check your computer's network connection. * If your computer or network is protected by a firewall or proxy, make sure that Firefox is permitted to access the Web. I'm running Windows XP, home edition, Version 2002 807 MHz, 384MB RAM My winamp can not connect to the server even though it's been activated and is in my task bar. I called Linksys tech support and they said it wasn't on their end. So I tried put the cables back the way they were before with the router unplugged and I couldn't get any connection to the net at all. Please help as I don't know what to do. My station url is http://70.35.170.158:8000 for anybody that wants to test it out. |

Nothing happening here.
Firstly www.portforward.com Then for testing from your own computer try http://127.0.0.1:8000 as most routers don't let you connect to your own IP. You will give your audience the 70.35.170.158 one though. ![]() Any more problems then paste the relevant errors from your DNAS logs. |

I reconnected the modem to the pc and rebooted and everything is fine. I'm streaming with winamp and shoutcast DNAS launched. I clicked on that http://127.0.0.1:8000 after reconnecting and rebooting and it took me to my server page. Should I reconnect the router and try clicking on that link again?
I'm tired as can be from all the frustration and it's after 2am here. Please forgive all my typos, I haven't been this tired in a long time. |

I apologize for the doubleposting. I just found this on the server monitor and don't know what it means. I thought it might mean that my station (called "Beaufy From Ashes Radio") wasn't listed on the directory at shoutcast.com but I went to check and it is. I don't know if it relates to my problem or not.
<09/28/06@02:00:31> [yp_add] yp.shoutcast.com gave error (nak) <09/28/06@02:00:31> [yp_add] yp.shoutcast.com gave extended error (404 Cannot see your station/computer from the Internet, disable Internet Sharing/NAT/firewall/ISP cache.) <09/28/06@02:08:56> [source] connected from 70.35.170.158 I'll fool with that router later today. Thank you for your input. I'll be checking back later today. Now I just need to go sleep. |

Is where you're going wrong. 127.0.0.1 goes in the output address box. Read the lazy set-up link in my signature. |

Okay I'm now up to speed somewhat but one problem remains.
I share this server with a person in another country. This is basically something we do for our own enjoyment. When I changed the output configuration address to 127.0.0.1 then I was able to connect through the router however she wasn't. I thought maybe she needed to change the IP to 127.0.0.1 in her shoutcast source as well so that's what I advised her to do and it didn't work. So she put my IP back in the output configuration address field while I had the router hooked back up and she still couldn't connect but once I unhooked the router she could. Is there any way we can get around this problem without having to pay someone else to host a server for us? Thank you for all your help. It's most appreciated but this frustrated and confused music lover. |

For your outside JD to connect, you need to tell that router to forward ports to the private address of the server. Port 8000 is for listeners. You need to forward 8001 for the DJ.
Hope this helps |

Hey there dotme.
I read this page http://www.portforward.com/english/r.../ShoutCast.htm and I think I understand it but I'm not sure. Furthermore there is only one that I could find for model number BEFSR41 version 1. On the router that I have there is no "40.2" whatever that means. But if I follow these steps, my DJ should be able to connect? Last edited by Michael T.; 28th September 2006 at 15:01. |

Okay, I've hit a snag. When I hooked the router back up and rebooted two things happened. I can not view the shoutcast page for my server. I get this message
Unable to connect Firefox can't establish a connection to the server at 70.35.170.158:8000. * The site could be temporarily unavailable or too busy. Try again in a few moments. * If you are unable to load any pages, check your computer's network connection. * If your computer or network is protected by a firewall or proxy, make sure that Firefox is permitted to access the Web. Also after hooking the router back up and launching internet explorer, I followed the instructions of this page http://www.portforward.com/english/r.../ShoutCast.htm the thing is, the screenshots do not match the screens that I'm looking at in IE. Probably because I do not have Version 1 40.2 of Linksys router BEFSR41 model. portforward doesn't have instructions on how to configure Linksys router model BEFSR41 version 1. And I keep getting this from my server monitor and I don't know why. I am beginning to think these routers aren't worth a dime and I'm not calling Linksys tech support again cause they'll just tell me that it isn't on their end. *sighs* |

Do you have a static IP address or Dynamic IP address? If you have a dynamic IP address then you might get a new IP address when you reboot. Best thing to do is go to no-ip.com and that way you can map a domain name like 'michaelt.servemp3.com' to your dynamic ip address. Then you will access your server using the new domain name and no matter if you reboot it will always be up. --------------------------------------------------- StreamFinder.com - Add your radio station to our free directory - get more exposure and listeners |
