Teacher allowed foot stomping

S.C. mom: Teacher allowed foot stomping

ROCK HILL, S.C. (AP) -- A Rock Hill teacher disciplined a student by having the boy's classmates stomp on his feet, the boy's mother says. Rosewood Elementary School teacher Daniel Johns, 25, punished the 7-year-old boy last month for stomping on another boy's foot by having the class do the same to him, the boy's mother Philisia Okeke said Tuesday.

Okeke said the students voted on the punishment and lined up to stomp on her son's toes.

Okeke, who says no one from the school contacted her about the Sept. 18 incident, said she has filed a complaint with Rock Hill police and transferred her child to another class.

The Rock Hill school district does not allow corporal punishment, except at the request of a parent, but foot stomping would not be considered corporal punishment, said Elaine Baker, a district spokeswoman. Baker did say the school district discourages teachers from this type of punishment.

Johns said Tuesday the incident was being investigated by the personnel department and had no other comment.

Police said they were investigating.

I bet the kid won't stomp on anyone's foot again. Seems fine to me.

we should let classrooms full of young kids decide all punishment.

You guys have no idea what ideas 7 year olds can get.

Those who can do, do; those who can't do, teach.

only to be punched in the leg repeatedly.

This could be solved if everyone just wore steel tipped boots all the time.

that'd be like lowering gang related deaths by issuing bullet-proof vests to gang members.

Isn't corporal punishment any form of punishment that inflicts physical pain? Or am I mistaken?

Just who should get their feet stomped in this story? The teacher, the superintendent, the kids?

Moron clod-hoppers from Arkansas. Can't they get more creative than stomping on some poor kid's feet. Waterboarding and stress positions coupled with extreme temperatures and sleep deprivation work must better as a classrom discipline enforcer are aarea as of late fully legal to use.

My point was, instead of trying to lower the violence we're just trying to lower the death. It doesn't make much sense and is a band-aid solution at best. It is the same with General Geoff's solution of having everyone wear steel tipped boots all the time.

Attacking the symptom rather than the cause is quite a problem in some situations.

Incidentally I think this whole thing is completely ridiculous. It's on the same sort of moral level as cutting hands from thieves.

It's harder to jaywalk if you're hanging from the top of a building by hooks embedded in your shoulders, too, doesn't make it a reasonable punishment

Haven't you read "Cat's Cradle" By Kurt vonegut? The hook is the penalty for all crimes from littering to murder. No exceptions. There is no crime in the country. works like a champ.

That's just the kind of outside-of-the-box thinking we need around here!

That's not necessarily a punishment at all.
