Winamp's Generic Crossfader

Crossfading DirectSound output v1.37 was a good design, but for one suggestion... Is it possible for it to be modified to have a seperate Auto-remove silence setting for beginning, and end of track.

I wish to have the cross-fade trigger at -15db (or definable at the end of any given audio track, and still have the default -40db trigger at the beginning of each track.

And one more thing,, is it possible to have some means of disabling or defining crossfade parameters from within the ID3 tag, or better still externally, as in Filename~(n).mp3/.wav, where n=seconds or milliseconds or ss.ss (EG 09.25 seconds before end of track)

This system is used in some radio automation software... Raduga and ZaraRadio come to mind.

Thanks

Thanks for the reply...

The theory of operation is different, but I stand to be corrected.

First, with Peter Pawlowski's version v1.37 when the buffer is set to 3000ms and "on pause/stop" is set to 3000 ms, when I press play when the cursor is highlighting the next track in the playlist, and the currently playing track is anywhere between 2500ms and 1500ms before it's end, Winamp crossfades (mixes) to the next track as it is supposed to (I assume).

In addition, the countdown shows the correct duration to completion of the track until the above action is initiated.

In the current version (I'm using 2.45d) the same settings show the countdown timer at the 3000ms point or less as being the duration of the upcoming track.

All this is hardly the point I'm trying to make however... I'm looking to be able to set an automatic crossfade point at a -15 db point on the outgoing audio, while maintaining the default -40db point of introducing the upcoming audio while allowing the outgoing audio to gradually fade under the incoming audio (Note I don't want to fade in the incoming audio, just allow a natural fade out of the outgoing audio mixed with the incoming audio starting at it's normal intended level, just like 99% of what you hear on the radio)

Currently setting the silence remover to -15db chops the outgoing audio and clips any incoming audio below the -15db threshold off.

So to recap... outgoing audio drops to -15db, new track starts (not with it's start chopped off) and the remaining outgoing audio fades away into oblivion.

In many cases, the incoming audio is a voice track and the outgoing audio is music, as in automated radio, but in case you're going to suggest Mariano Lopez's SQR crossfader, then this is not an option due to the sizable prebuffering it needs to perform to assess the crossfade point.

Real time manual crosfading is part of the equation as well.

In actual fact the correct terminology is probably mixing rather than crossfading, because essentially the integrity of the original material is hopefully going to be preserved, in other words, no artificial fade out or chop applied to the outgoing track, and no fading in applied to the incoming track.

The above scenario is aimed at serving the needs of a community radio station where live and automated programming occur together.

Definition of automated is inserting linear .wav's (voice tracks) into a playlist of .mp2 and .mp3's (music, promo and sponsorship)

How are we doing so far...
