Feature: Search thru playlist
First thing I want to say is that Winamp is handsdown the best media player. No question and end of topic.
To make it absolutely perfect, one small features is needed. Ill call it Winamp Media Search. Some of us have playlists that go into the 10000 songs long and maybe we want to look for a specific one without scrolling thru. Here is when Winamp Media Search comes in. This sort of works like Windows Live Messenger contact search, Windows Desktop Search and Vista's search. Lets say we are looking for the hiphop song Ether by Nas off the Stillmatic album which was released in 2000. In a text box, below the playlist, we put in the word "Nas" and Winamp searches thru the ID3v1/v2 tags and the files names of everything in our playlist and filters everything that matches (artist, file name, etc) "Nas" by putting everything that matches on top (possibly with a different color) and everything that has little or no relevence to the search on the bottom. When we clear the text box everything goes back to normal and the original order is restored. Next we put "Nas 1999" and thru ID3v1v2 tags it filters out every song by Nas in 1999. Then by putting something like "Nas stillmatic ether" we should get the song filtered out completely alone in our playlist. I think its the only addition necessary to make Winamp perfect. |

Press J, F3 or keypad .
You'll get a Jump to File dialog through which you search the current playlist. JTFE is the 'Extended Jump to File support' plugin, only installed if it was selected in the installer options. That plugin will add extra features to the Jump to File dialog. |

Didn't work
I verified that the JTFE was installed (what better a way to be sure than to install the newest version and make sure it was ticked? (v5.5))
I went to Audio in the media library, pressed f3, j, and . on the keypad, and nothing happened (J went to the first artist starting with J), then I went to a playlist and did the same things, with the same results. I checked the settings, and the plugin IS enabled, what am I missing? |

The Jump to File dialog (and hence JTFE) is only available in the playlist editor (containing the current playlist).
In Media Library playlists it won't work. In Local Media you can use the search bar at the top instead. |

Ok... please save my sanity and tell me that someone has developed a plugin to search a playlist without having to load it up into the queue or a method to do it.

J or F3 allows you to search the active playlist.

Yes I'm aware (although its buggy in 5.5... I have to press f3, then reboot the program, then it pops up)
I'm asking about is there a plugin or some other way I can search a playlist that isn't in the queue? in other words, make it act as the media library search does. |

they had that exact function in a previous version of winamp, i think 2 verisons before version 5. I know because i was using that function until one day they forced me to download the new winamp. i was disappointed that the function was not included in the new winamps.
if they made smoeting like that i tihnk everyone would be happy.. instead of always pressing J and putting that enque, it should have a search bar in the playlist so you can search. |
