Winamp 3 for Linux Alpha 1 beta
I found the following link which links to a Winamp rpm,
http://fileforum.betanews.com/detail...x/1002748075/1 unfortunately I have not found any solutions to the install problems in that forum or in Winamp forums. As this appears to have been sometime ago( circa 2001)I was wondering if it had been followed up and perhaps a setup guide was availabel or has the project been dropped ? Appreciate any help in setting this up in SUSe 10.1 Jim |

as was the case with anything Winamp3 related, it was all dropped a few years back and is no longer supported in anyway (and the support for that linux test build wasn't even really there either).
as for getting it up and running i wouldn't even personally know where to start since i don't use linux though i doubt it would even run too well (was really unstable from the comments that i remember from the few that did get it running) -daz |

If you really want to play with it, here is the last version ever released:
http://sawgweb.com/sawgstuff/oldies/winamp3-20021212.sh Download and execute it. ./winamp3-20021212.sh Remember, this was not meant for every day use and is not supported, at all. Winamp3 is long dead. | Brought to you by ^V ^C | The one... the original... no seriously! |

Appreciate the responses, I now understand that this is a dead end for a WinAmp solution.
I'll keep looking for as near as equivalent as I can, I think Winamp is an excellent piece of software. I am investigating a linux platform as I will not be moving to a Vista one... keep up the good work, cheers,

As far as I know, XMMS is your best bet ... can even use Classic Winamp skins if I remember right. But I haven't used Linux in years, maybe someone can correct me.

It seems sorta selfish for the Winamp development team to exclude the Linux operating system from being given a compatable version of WINAMP. There's Winamp for Windows, Winamp for Mac and even Winamp for Android but NO Winamp for Linux.....Forgive me for beating a dead horse but this bothers me.

selfish, probably but nothing is likely going to change as far as a linux version goes due to one little word... money. all of the platforms mentioned are still / will be able to make money via means and ways (which is how most parts are still free).
but making another new player from scratch with everyone stretched already is just insane from a business viewpoint for an OS that probably should be supported but has such a small comparative user base to the other platforms that it never gets the focus (same could probably be said for Mac OS as well compared to Windows and Android but that's just my view). |
