Not at all, if I stopped working tomorrow, and believe me the temptation is often there, I could live off my savings and various investments for a considerable time period before I'd have to look at doing something about it.

And that's on top of paying the mortgage and paying off my ex's blood money, I mean 'Financial settlement'

The only reason I'm broke is because I keep spending my money.

I used to think that, but it can go really fast.

I'll bet that most of the people that would answer this poll would think they were middle of the road. The truth being they don't have a pot to piss in.

How to tell?. Look in your wallet. Do you see any other card besides Amex?. When you look in your file folder, does it contain a credit report or a financial statement?.

Rich people don't use consumer credit.

Now girls, you know how to find those rich guys. If you see a Visa or a Mastercard, you know the guy is owned by the bank. He might have a buck, but chances are he's up to his ass in consumer debt.

I hold one debit card, haven't used a credit card whatsoever in nearly 20 years, have a 401K and an IRA and live happily.

Not broke but not rich. Annual income bounces between $150K and $300K. But I'm starting my own firm this year, so hopefully this'll go up.

Oh, and I'm not title-pawning broke, but I'm certainly not rich. If I lost my job tomorrow, I could pay my bills and stay fed for a couple months on my current savings.

That is the way most americans are. Those are not good odds. Try hitting 40 and have a few medical problems that would keep you out of work for 6 months. You'll lose your medical insurance, your credit cards will go to 33%. You might lose your house.

I think this is the thing that annoys me about american existence. We are all just about on the brink of disaster. Some of us make it, some of us don't.

There are 40 million people in this country with no medical insurance. Who are they?. People that USED to have medical insurance, but couldn't keep up on the premiums usually BECAUSE THEY GOT SICK.

It doesn't even have to be really a bad illness.... just enough to take you out of the ballgame for a few months.

Once you lost your insurance, it will be damn near impossible to buy it again if you have uninsured medical bills.

Bush pissed me off last night with his medical care proposal. Someone said on the news "This is like handing a 10 foot rope to someone in a 40 foot hole".

However, under his plan, 5 million more americans would be able to afford insurance. That's better than anything else I've heard.

Now while I'm listening to the democrats bitch, I'm listening closely to see if they have any plan at all. As usual, Bush is wrong AND?.

Well, not everybody can just go out and get a dream job making buttloads of money. I work my ass off, and I make ends meet. It's all I can do right now. Am I happy about this? No. Doesn't mean I can snap my fingers and change it.

I know a woman that has a problem with her liver. She works for one of the silicon farms and has good insurance. A recent operation cost her insurance company a million bucks.

She's 32. She will never be able to be unemployed, because if she ever loses her group medical insurance, she'll never be able to get insurance again.

Now tell me?. Can you say you'll never be unemployed?.

You've said you're rich. That won't last long at $50 a second for medical care.

You might think it's poor people that don't have insurance. A lot of guys are out there that are just like you.

That's because insurance companies and hospitals can basically charge whatever they want. And that, my friend, is more than anyone has.

Just get yourself into a risk group and get laid off. It doesn't take much. You talked about being self-employed........ BEND OVER!.

Medical bills are still the leading cause of personal bankruptcy. And as many of you guys in a high tax bracket go down as me.

Unless it's an automated banking transaction, I like these.

There's little trouble 2 or three of these in your wallet cant't get you out of.

And I think in your financial planning, you should have a couple dozen of these someplace.

I had a customer come into the gas station today with one of these cards. It really threw me off, the card is very heavy. And it was cold, and not just because the temperature is only 5 degrees Fahrenheit. After looking at widdy's link I discovered it's the only credit card made of metal. This would certainly explain its weight.

Spiral out, my friend. You will find your way back to yourself, we all will.
I'll be waiting, and shall see you on the other side...

I usually end the month in or very near my overdraft limit. I would be somewhat screwed if I didn't have an interest free OD. I do live in a very nice flat and live quite well but I don't save anything really. I am paying off nearly £90 a month for my student loan, which if I didn't have I'd be putting into a saving account or pension. I think the increase on the pay review I get this year will be going entirely into my pension. So I will still have the same amount of disposable cash available.

Well. two things , Missy:
1. You have to be "Invited" to acquire a Black!
and
B. You gotta' be able to spend about 250K a year.
Which lets me know you got green!

I've got enough saved up so that if I quit my job I could live for at least two years without working. Partially that is by having had the good fortune to have had my recording studio robbed at shotgun point and my insurance policy paid up. I bought a house with the money 13 years ago, long before insanity took over the real estate market. So My house has risen almost 10x in value and will be paid off in about 5 years. If I choose to sell, I could cash out for a lonnnnnng time and do some traveling. However I like my job and I like my house. I make good dough and live small to allow me to one day make the cash out decision and still keep the house.

Ya know, zootm, retail joints enacting a minimum charge to use a card is illegal. Report it to your card company and they'll come down like a ton of bricks on the pub that wouldn't sell you a single pint.

"Which is worse, ignorance or indifference?"

"I don't know, and I don't care."

That's a really ludicrous comment. There are plenty of people who use consumer credit, collect bucket-loads of frequent flyer and/or hotel points, and pay their cards off on time. Why would a rich person not use consumer credit? Paying for things earlier than you have to is just silly, and continually obtaining cash from ATMs is far from an optimal use of ones time.
