Hum, I'll reserve judgement till I see a real world demonstration.

ie photos taken as your average person would, not a professional photographer. Knotice how every photo was in the same light and overlapped with others by a large margin?

But anyway, I'll wait for a more realistic set of photos before judgement... ..why are they sponsored by BMW anyway?

Not really; did you look closely? Try the live demo and you'll see this not to be the case. Also, in the demonstration videos, the images were collected by crawling Flickr, which is about as real-world as you're going to get. For legal reasons they can't put a dataset like that in the live demo though.

The system (for incredibly obvious reasons) needs a lot of source photos to generate an image, of course.

They're not? There was an Aston Martin ad in the demo video if that's what you mean?

They are, watch the start and end again, it actually states its sponsored by BMW.

Anyway, I said I'd give them the benefit of the doubt until I see the video with other photos for myself.

That's kinda weird; presumably BMW sponsored the event and they get exposure to lots of high-earning techie types as their benefit.

TED is just a dumb name. With risk of offending guys named Ted all over the world, they could have picked a better name for their project.

Could have picked a better sponsor as well... ..BMW is hardly the ideal choice for something that is supposed to be Aestheticly PLEASING.

what's wrong with bmw? It's just a car. No one really cares who sponsors events, anyway.

but it is a verry good idea.

@Vie: You obviously hate BMW because you are a fan of Alfa Romeo (according to your avatar).

BMW and Alfa are not really competitors, similar price and market but totally different customers.

And by the by I love classic Beamers, it only the last generation or two that have been revolting to look at and of lower quality than there predecessors.

I agree on the "how much are they going to charge" though.
