What the hell is going one with the winamp development.

Is Winamp dead because since v2.95 ther was no good option included. Like Playing MDK video files are Playing DVDs ore TV and Radion tuner support .....
I can now play with Windows Media Player more stuff then with Winamp. The only ting Winamp has more is a bigger Plugin Community but for how long.

Huh? There have been tons of development since 2.95, all they way up to 5.35. I am not even sure what you are saying, really? If you have specific feature requests there is a forum just for it, called the Wishlist. Does the bigger number of 5 scare you?

whats mdk? did you mean matroska?
all you need is ffdshow and haali's splitter to play these files in winamp. same as windows media player.

you'll also need to add ;mkv to the directshow file extension list.

preferences(ctrl+p)-->input-->nullsoft directshow decoder
-->config
append ";MKV" to the end of the list.(without quotations)

windows media doesn't support dvd playback unless you purchase a mpeg2 decoder. same with winamp...

same process as above just add ;VOB to the extension list.(although their is no menu/chapter/encription or real disk support it can at least play the files on the dvd)

tv and radeon tuner support works with a plugin.(as long as you have windows wdm drivers)

windows media files are shit, they sound like ass and they have drm right removal all over the format. why bother.

congratulations your my hero.

According to the MPEG-LA Licensing Agreement MPEG-LA, any use of MPEG-2 technology is subject to royalties. This means DVD and/or SVCD.

* Encoders have a $0.50 charge for each product.
* Decoders have a $0.50 charge for each product.[5]
* Royalty-based sales of encoders and decoders are subject to different rules and $2.50 per unit.[6]
* Also, any packaged medium (DVDs/Data Streams) is subject to licence fees according to length of recording/broadcast.

we could charge this for winamp and have native decoding.

but then you'd complain about the cost.

ffdshow(mpeg2 decoding... this is part of the klite pack) is possibly illegal in many countries as it avoids royalty fees. hence why it can't be included with winamp. not to mention it would bloat the installer, then you might as well just use windows media player.

winamp is more an small audio player anyway, proper dvd support might come one day, but with a small development team its priority is down the list.
