Memory Leak

Has anyone else noticed a large memory leak in the latest version (5.541) on Vista?

After using winamp to listen to a stream this morning for roughly 4 hours my winamp working set size was @250MB and the private size was over 650MB! Even with just opening Winamp and letting it sit there without playing or doing anything the memory usage (both the working set and private) has gone from @25MB for both working and private to 82MB and 76MB respectively, over the course of 15 minutes.

Looking at Winamp.exe in Process Explorer shows a jump of about 4MB in private bytes every minute, literally. Not around a minute, or just for a few minutes; every minute (to the second) that WinAmp is open it is allocating @4MB of memory.

The only plugin that I know I'm running is for Last.Fm (Audioscrobbler Winamp plugin v2, 1, 0, 9 (ML Mode)), but I've been using that for a while and have never noticed this memory issue before upgrading to the latest release of WinAmp.

Anyone else seeing this? If it's not WinAmp, how I can I try to isolate what the real cause is?

Thanks!

Yeah, I've noticed this too.

Funnily, I don't use winamp as default for playing music now; All the experimental features added etc cause longer startups, high memory use etc. I generally use it for ripping (what I paid for), portable support and Shoutcast ,

I use Foobar as default.

Dual-core intel 2.4ghz, 4gb RAM.

Yeah, winamp opens in about 2 secs (Foobar less than a sec).

Which I suppose is ok, but all the 'extras' that are packed into Winamp and the windows (browser, video etc) that can't be removed, the new versions that add new problems, and now the double memory use (which is 4 times Foobar's), mean it's not my default player when I just want to play a few tracks.

listeruk: I have tha ultimate solution for ya;

Double click the Winamp Installer again (v5.541), look carefully what it says, and uncheck the things you dont want!!!!!! Its your own fault that you have extra things that you dont want.

Take the time you need to go trough the installer, instead of rushing and clicking next-next-next. UNCHECK THE THINGS YOU DONT WANT.

And btw, try to use the Winamp Modern skin, or the Classic skin instead of Bento. It uses less resources, it doesnt have the browser etc.. But better; go carefully trough the installer.

Please reply on how it goes

Well Knotte thanks for the condescending reply, but i'm very careful about the options checked during install. I have about two thirds of the options unchecked.

See I've been a Winamp (v2)user since '99 and have upgraded from each version.

But the mem use has still doubled.
