Playlist Metadata From External Software
I know that Shoutcast can easily pass metadata using MP3 title & info in a playlist, but we are using the 'soundcard input' setting. Therefore we have no MP3 info to feed our listeners. Instead, I was wondering if we could use an XML generator to pass this info to shoutcast so we can let people know what show they're listening to.
Anyone doing something like this? Is it possible? And if so, what software is everyone using? We currently do something similar with our HD radio stations using an automation program & related software to generate an XML file that gets 'pushed' to our exciter, then appears on the radio screens. Thanks for any tips you all can provide. |

What playout software are you using?
If you can push an HTML connection directly from the software, and are on the same network as the Shoutcast server, then you should be able to push the info directly to the server. I forget the exact string to use but it involves the server IP, user and password, plus the info. It's documented in here somewhere, but probably in the tech support section. Otherwise some people have found/payed for a plugin that allows metadata from a serial connection in Winamp. And I would really recommend a different encoder for your uses. Look into Spacial Audio's Simplecast Encoder and see if it will encode to the format you want, or look at Orban's Opticodec SE or PE to do the job. You can get an educational discount from Spacial, just email them. Your mileage may vary! |

Thanks for the info Greg. We're using Winamp with an Oddcast plug-in (2 instances) for playout. I'll look into the new Opticodec and Spacial.
Much obliged. |

Since you aren't using a real automation application, look into the full version of Simple Cast, next up the price scale would be Simian from BSI.
