Antivirus and my laptop (No internet)
Hi all, been a while:
I have a Laptop with Windows 7 ultimate ¬¬ the scenario is like this: 1.- No internet connection 2.- Educational proporse (word, powerpoint) 3.- Will have dozens of USB/CDs plugged everyday Question: How will be possible to install an antivirus and, the best, keep update its virus signatures? Thanks. * PC: Intel Core 2 DUO E6550 @ 2.33 GHz with 2 GB RAM: Archlinux-i686 with MATE. * Laptop: Intel Core 2 DUO T6600 @ 2.20 GHz with 4 GB RAM: Archlinux-x86-64 with MATE. |

Install AV somewhere where there is a connection, or use an AV product with a redistributable installer.
It won't be practical to update it regularly. I remember some AV products distributing their latest definitions on magazine cover CDs back when most people didn't have a net connection, and it may still be possible to do it that way, but it would probably be easier to just move it back to a location where there is an internet connection available when you can and update windows/av/java/flash/pdf reader etc. |

Would it be possible to set up a secure wifi access point that only the laptop can access, then set up the security on the laptop so that only the antivirus can access the internet?

Antivirus updates are usually less than 5 megabytes. Even at 56k speeds, it isn't much of an issue.

hmm, you could download a free program like AVG from google, get a friend to send if to you on a memory stick or do it yourself from a cafe or whatever.
It won't hurt to have an anti-virus and it should update by itself |

go for Avast as suggested, and update it whenever you can. avast is even better than mcafee IMHO, as it doesnt slow you down at all.
