Winamp - Portable application for a flash drive

I'm looking for a portable mp3 player to work on a flash drive. I see Winamp lite but can't find a good explanation of it's purpose. It didn't sound like a Portable application for a flash drive. Why doesn't Winamp have a Portable version? It'd be nice to carry Winamp on my Flashdrive and not have to install it on every machine I encounter to listen to mp3's.

I second this request. I would like to see a USB/Portable install version of Winamp (not U3 specific). All information specific to Winamp's install should be recorded in the install directory on the flash drive.

Thanks!

make a custom install in a folder on the drives and remove paths.ini and then it'll save its settings in the custom install folder. or you can copy an existing folder and do the same to paths.ini. you'd also probably want to set no_registry=1 in your custom versions winamp.ini to prevent it modifying the registry so it is portable.

DrO,

I think you are missing the point of my request. I am asking for the installation package to handle the portable install by default. Other programs (not media player specific) can do this. I am asking the Winamp development team to add this functionality to the product. Hacking the Winamp install process every time a new version of Winamp is release is a PITA.

i was aware of wanting an installer to do it for you, however giving _an_ option is better than just letting the post go ignored. plus it wouldn't be that hard for someone to make a tool which would do it based on an existing client install (something for anyone reading this to consider doing).
